American knife makers don't tend to play it safe. That's a big reason we've always enjoyed stocking them.

 

Our American knives come from brands that have earned serious followings among knife users and collectors, including Spyderco, Benchmade, Buck Knives and Jack Wolf Knives. Between them you'll find hard-working folders, traditional American pocket knives, premium EDC and fixed blades built for proper use.

 

We don't stock a knife because it has USA on the box. It still has to earn its place at Heinnie.

 

Buck Knives has been doing exactly that for generations. The Buck 110 Folding Hunter is an American classic and one of those knives that needs very little introduction. If you prefer something more modern, Spyderco has never been afraid of an unconventional blade shape or handle if it makes the knife work better. Benchmade has its own fiercely loyal following, particularly among those looking for a premium modern folder. Then there's Jack Wolf Knives, taking traditional patterns and giving them the materials and finishing you'd expect from a thoroughly modern collector's knife.

 

American makers have also been quick to embrace new blade steels. You'll spot CPM S30V, CPM S35VN, CPM MagnaCut and plenty of other interesting steels among the knives below.

 

We love talking steel, but don't get too hung up on it.

 

The best knife isn't automatically the one with the newest super steel or longest specification list. We'd sooner have a knife with the right size, geometry, ergonomics and build for the job. That's something worth remembering when you're comparing two very similar-looking price tags.
