Is there a better ring lock, light weight, reasonably priced pocket knife on the market? We don't think so!

Working out of Palaçoulo in Portugal the father and son team of Jose da Cruz create knives of outstanding quality and practicality. They are notable by the use of a heavyweight brass ring lock that secures the blade in the open position, no puny stainless or aluminium that loosens over time and becomes less effective.

The Jose da Cruz Merendeira Ironwood Carbon features a compact, streamlined blade made from Carbon steel. It is extremely sharp out of the box and makes for a highly versatile and handy blade. The handle is Ironwood with a lined lanyard hole.

Fits the small leather sheath. See below.

JOSE DA CRUZ MERENDEIRA IRONWOOD CARBON

Posted by Bob Hughes on 14th Oct 2023

First of all, many thanks to HH for very prompt despatch and delivery As always, brilliant. I simply can't properly explain the quality of this knife; you have to have one to believe it, and at just under £17, exceptional value-for-money! Theirs locking ring and retainer are firm and secure, with absolutely no play in the open blade whatsoever. The blade really is razor sharp (edge and tip). Opening and closing (out of the box) seems a bit stiff, but I regard the friction (especially when closing the blade) as a safety feature. I'll not be in a hurry to use a drop of oil - as the knife is useable as-is; very much so. Whilst the length of the handle isn't huge, it fits my large hand well enough to be comfortable and stable - no probs at all. I'm so pleased with the feel and build quality, I've just ordered the (more expensive) deer horn/INOX as a collector's piece. These knives offer extremely good value for money, in my view! Best purchase yet!

    A posh Opinel

Posted by Lee on 6th Dec 2022

Firstly, normal amazing service from Heinnie. I have a couple of Opinel knives. I really like them, they are extremely practical, comfortable, lightweight and very sharp, and of course they are very affordable and represent really good value for money. This knife from Jose Da Cruz, is very similar only probably better. It came already very sharp, a couple of swipes on a strop and it was razor sharp. I like the design of the hollow ground blade, it looks great. The handle is really nice Ironwood, very smooth and well finished and very comfortable. The knurled brass locking ring looks really good, but operates smoothly and really locks the blade in place, with no play whatsoever. There is a lanyard hole, but it's very small you might get some microcord through there, not paracord. All in all this is a great knife for the money, looks great, feels great, super sharp, and not expensive. As I said, it's like an upgraded Opinel, definitely recommend.
