Originally designed as an electrician's knife, the Hultafors Electrical Fitter's Knife has been re-purposed by Heinnie Haynes' customers. The short, stout blade, designed for cable stripping, has proved excellent at fine, close work on wood, and has a multitude of uses around the campsite or workshop.
The blade is made from Japanese knife steel, 1.5 mm carbon steel that has been hardened to 58–60 HRC.

Really great little utility knife. Cheap as chips but in the same use category as Stanley craft/warehouse blade and far superior . The little carbon steel blade is very sharp, and the plastic handle very comfy.
Bought to cut leather.. Perfect grind angle for my requirements. High quality knife you couldnt knit for the price
As a service engineer, some of our spare parts are £1000+, so come in an insane amount of packaging. This little beast hacks through plastic banding, parcel tape, bubble wrap, corrugated cardboard, polystyrene...... the lot ! The short blade allows unpacking without damaging the item. And when it's done all that, it still does what it was designed for, cable work. This is never off my belt at work, very inoffensive in use. Oh yes, cuts plasterboard a treat for fitting backboxes too. Why would you not buy it at this price ???
I got this for whittling but if you need to strip cable then you're better off witk the similar ELK for £1 more. This is an excellent product & a good pp.sheath is included - how do they do this for the price of a pint & a bag of crisps?
For the price, they can't be beaten. Thinner stock than the larger hultafors blades, but this is good when it comes to cutting up boxes or other craft work in materials that tend to bind thicker blades. One of mine (I bought three) wasn't very sharp on arrival, but a quick going over on a fine grit whetstone and it was shaving sharp. I then used that one for an hour or so of carving some pine, it worked very well indeed. I find the hultafors steel to hold up pretty well. About as well as the Mora carbon, but not as well as the Mora laminated. The handle isn't very visible when you drop it in the dirt, but there are ways around this - a bright lanyard, for instance. In all, you get much more than you pay for with this little knife. Surprisingly handy, and also quite non-threatening too, if that is a concern.
Another winner from Scandinavia. This works surprisingly well as a wood carving knife. Sharp and solid with a comfortable handle. Will be buying more of these. One of the best bargains ever.
This is a VERY useful little knife - I use it mainly for leatherworking, where the short blade allows for a much more positive feeling while allowing a good level of pressure to be maintained. Sharpness is extremely good, out of the box, while the plastic sheath allows it to be kept on the belt, ready for when you need it - while allowing you to keep your more specialist knives for other jobs, which saves on sharpening time. Cutting out pieces and trimming the edges of jobs is much easier with this one. I've also found that it makes an excellent knife for carving wood, plastic and anything else that's soft and you need a good level of control - where a larger knife wouldn't give you that fine level of control needed. Good knife to teach basic sharpening on too - given the straight edge and short length, I'd guess.
I wanted to wait a while before reviewing to give me time to use this knife. A stupidly cheap knife, but ignore the price - is it any good? Hell yes! Electrician's knives have a hard life and many are expensive rubbish. This knife proves that you can get quality for cheap. Super sharp with just the right hardness - too soft and the edge does not last 5 minutes, too hard and it will chip too easily when stripping Steel Wire Armoured cable. Re-sharpens easily on a stone, and a couple of stokes with a steel keeps it slicing while on the job. The handle fills the hand and inspires confidence due to the amount of control you can put into the stumpy little blade, meaning that you can work with a high degree of safety. The sheath seems good with three different mounting options, and locks the knife in firmly. It seems unfair to criticise a proper working tool that costs only slightly more than a pint of beer in some places but being a southpaw, the lack of an ambidexrous sheath is the only thing stopping me giving it 6 stars out of five. So 5 stars for 5 pounds - can't go wrong.
