Hultafors Craftsmans Craftsman's Knife HVK 18

This is the first Hultafors I ever bought. The brand was recommended by a leather craftsman and I know he is both skilled and knowledgable! So when I wanted one for use in a traveling bag, one I could just leave and not worry about, this one fit the bill. It's not too big, and the high visibility orange handle is a good feature. The plastic sheath seems safe and secure. Ordinarily a Mora would have been my choice but the pedigree, easily maintained Scandi grind, and quality carbon steel blade of the Hultafors made this one a worthy candidate. The wonderfully reasonable price was just the icing on the cake! So it hasn't had much use, but the previously mentioned conversation, comparing the virtues of Mora vs Hultafors, although it was a brief conversation, certainly made me willing to give them a try, seeing that the opinion came from an expert. This is a stellar bargain for a genuine Scandinavian made blade, with a thoughtfully designed sheath too. Well impressed. Fantastic delivery as always from HH! Cheers!

These things are great. I've got at least 4 of them, and I always seem to come away with another every time I buy from here. They are such amazing value, it's hard not to pick one up when passing through. The steel is pretty great. Haven't had any real issues with chips or rolls, and have dropped it onto concrete plenty of times with minimal damage. It is a carbon steel, and it will rust pretty quickly if put away wet, but so far it's only ever been surface rust. My most heavily used one has a grey/blue patina on the flats now, so now I don't worry about oiling it. I just make sure it's not wet when I put it away and it's fine for the most part a week later. Full scandi grind means any rust disappears when you sharpen it anyway. And at this price point, a stainless knife would have to use some inferior steel, so the steel choice is great. Comes shaving sharp out the box, which is impressive considering the steep angle geometry. Makes for a very sturdy edge, and a hard-use knife. Grinding is decent, albeit a tiny bit uneven towards the tips. The spine is left unfinished too, so I've taken a stone to one of mine to give it a much nicer, sharper 90 degree spine for ferro rod striking. Handle is pretty comfortable. Fills the hand nicely, with decent finger guard to stop you sliding up onto the blade. Traction isn't amazing, it's just a lightly textured plastic, but the shape of the handle itself means your hand isn't going anywhere anyways, so the light texturing is actually a positive because it reduces blisters and hotspots. It's durable too. As I've said, I've dropped it lots of times, and it has yet to shatter. I just sand out any large lumps from the small dents the concrete makes and it's good to go. The sheath is good. It's intended for right side, tip down only. No scout carry I'm afraid. Very secure fit, and it has a little thumb ramp to make the knife easier to remove, which is always really nice to see. Drainage hole at the bottom too. I'm not too fond of the belt clipping attachment, it can be fiddly to take on and off, and I've found it works best on webbing belts that aren't to thick. That said, the fact that it actually clips to the belt itself, rather than sliding onto it means that it's really well on there, and doesn't try to slide around on your hip like belt loops do. This also improves my confidence in resheathing the knife without holding the sheath in place, something I'll normally do on other belt knives. Overall, this knife is brillant because of one thing - the price. You lose one, who cares? Break one? Who cares! Just buy another. I've got one at work, one in the shed, one in my camping kit, and one I keep nearby to EDC around the house. I've given them out as gifts to friends, family and colleagues. And that is why they're so good. Just buy one, it's the price of a cup of coffee, and instead of an hour long caffeine high, you'll have a tool that could last a lifetime.

I'm not one to use more expensive knives. Mora and hultafors are my go to tools. For the price I'm not afraid to use this knife for any task, or take out with me on hikes. What's the worst thing that could happen? I lose £4? Great for practical tasks and great for honing sharpening skills in the field. I can totally understand how great it is for scouts and the like. Basically you get 4 knives for the price of one (very well priced) Swiss army hiker.

For the price, this knife is well made sits in the hand comfortably, clamps inits sheath safetly and is sharp, perfect for a multitude of applications, 5*.

I read great things about this, people comparing it to Mora etc. And it's a sturdy thing, comfy in the hand and the sheath is more than should be expected for a fiver. I bought it to put in my survival bag, the orange handle and thick blade make it ideal. The blade though! Not sure if I got a dud but my butter knife has a better edge to it. The grind isn't great rather, I'll have to put some work in on this one, but once done it'll be a lifesaver. Great delivery from HH again.

Great budget, bushcraft blade. Sharp, thin blade that is great for slicing through wood. It will baton through wood with a small diameter. The steel is carbon and sharpens easily; it holds an edge; the handle is comfortable; and it's only four pounds to purchase. Great value and does it's job perfectly.
