Higo Kinzoku Damascus Folding Knife

The first Higonokami knives were made as early as 1896 in the Japanese town of Miki. After the last samurai were forbidden to carry swords in public, many blacksmiths started to make knives. Higo no Kami was then an honorary title for especially powerful samurai, and it quickly became the name for the knives produced there.

Since the production in the Japanese town of Miki the classic Higonokami style has hardly changed.

The Higo Kinzoku Damascus is a lovely tribute to the knifemaker's art. This version is made in China. The handle is crafted from one piece of folded metal, the knife is opened by a lever (Chikiri) on the back of the blade. By pressing the lever while holding the knife, the blade is kept open.

    Great looking practical knife

Posted by Morgan Deakin-Gibbs on 21st Apr 2022

This is truly much better than I expected, the Damascus could be a bit more defined, but then what do you want from a £49 knife? In the hand it reminds me of my grandads old silver fish penknife and I guess that is the best comparison. Small enough to be handy but big enough to be REALLY useful. Build quality seems good, time will tell! Oh and it truly is razor sharp out of the box and should stay that way so long as it’s sharpened regularly. Lastly, if you can buy a marine gun cloth at the same time as the blade Will brown if left untreated after use.

    So cool!

Firstly, service from HH brilliant as usual. Love mine, yes it had Boker on the box, but Boker Solingen (not the dreaded boker plus). So quality is good, sharp as heck out of the box, awesome and fun design, great looking Damascus on mine, now opens all my bills as I don’t ever get any other mail! But what a great way to open letters, cheers me up, fancy snake knot paracord lanyard and away! Big thumbs up from me.

    Higonokami Kinzoku Damascus (Baker)

Posted by Jack on 4th Feb 2022

Beware. This is not the genuine Japanese Higonokami. Its a Boker and in this case, inferior to the genuine article. Damascus steel is ok, but the retention when closed is non existent. It just flops open, so if its in your pocket it can cause injury. I also have a genuine Paper Steel Hignokami and the difference is significant. So, if you want the genuine Japanese version check first.

The knife itself is beautiful , although the thumb hold is a little wide . On the down side it’s 39 on website but only 27 on the paper catalog

Great little knife, very lightweight, you don’t notice it in your pocket. It’s well made and also has an attractive Damascus blade. I am happy with mine! Great service from HH aswell thanks.
