The first Higonokami knives were made as early as 1896 in the Japanese town of Miki. After the last samurai were forbidden to carry swords in public, many blacksmiths started to make knives. Higo no Kami was then an honorary title for especially powerful samurai, and it quickly became the name for the knives produced there.
Since the production in the Japanese town of Miki the classic Higonokami style has hardly changed.
The Higo Kinzoku Damascus is a lovely tribute to the knifemaker's art. This version is made in China. The handle is crafted from one piece of folded metal, the knife is opened by a lever (Chikiri) on the back of the blade. By pressing the lever while holding the knife, the blade is kept open.

Great little knife, very lightweight, you don’t notice it in your pocket. It’s well made and also has an attractive Damascus blade. I am happy with mine! Great service from HH aswell thanks.
Beautiful little knife & razor sharp!
The knife is a good design with a very sharp blade, but the handle is lightweight and rather flimsy
I knocked off 1 star 'cos mine came with a slightly curved blade which is something you often get with handmade items but it isn't enough to prevent correct usage. This knife is the total opposite of modern factory made folders, many of which leave me cold. This one is tactile & great to handle & use. It's simplicity is what makes it so good. A knife like this is not for jabbing or thrusting, it's for cutting, carving & shaving - a must for collectors!
Lovely looking and quite practical
Small and perfectly formed
Charming, tactile item. Lovely looking blade which came with a fine and very sharp edge. A delight to carry.
