    condor parang

had this for about ten years, use it all the time, superb tool. heard negative reports about chopping ability which i don't get. I've been a carpenter for 30+ years and if you know how timber works this is a great tool

Wayward out of Balace and Heavy

Posted by If it's not industrial it's broken on 16th Aug 2016

Got this about 5 otr 6 years ago, back then it was under forty quid, this is to long, thick and heavy to be accurate , the grip is uncomfortable and at full swing I am uncomfortable at being out of controll. As you can tell this isnot a favourable reveiw. I sure looks menacing and the wooden grop is nicer than a nylon handle but this is not a tool I would use for doing sustained work.

    Parang & Kukri update

Posted by Tony Jedi of the Forest on 6th Nov 2015

A quick update of my reviews last month. I have given my Condor Parang a good workout. It is great for clearing brambles but like Chris on another review I found it bounced off thick wood when chopping. I had an old thick pine bunk bed to chop up & this proved useless. I also used my new heavy duty Condor Kukri which chopped quite well but needed more chops than my Estwing axe. My late dad used to have a saying " always use the right tool for the job" & these proved not to be the right tools for chopping thick well seasoned varnished wood. The axe beat both hands down. The parang though was the right tool for clearing the brambles at the bottom of my garden. The Kukri was an adequate chopper but not as good as the axe, it is the right one tool option though for carrying in my backpack out in the woods for the odd bit of chopping firewood & also cutting & also makes a fantastic draw knife.,so the 5 star rateing stands for both products.

    Not yet used but........

ok function, to be honest couldn't tell you as only just received (order made Tuesday delivered by Thursday Free!!). Everywhere I've looked online this has had glowing reviews. I was a bit ify due to the price, I thought I may have ended up with the older model (not full tang) but there was no need to worry it's the newer one. I red somewhere that a Parang this size is more of a sword and to be honest I bought it as such, ifI wanted to chop down some bushes I'd get a £3 throw away job . It looks very high quality, nice leather sheath, awesome feeling handle and over all it looks like it'd last way into the future. At £50 it may appear expensive for a machete, but as I said I don't look at it as such. Only thing I would change if the yucky black coating, maybe I'll strip it.

Affordable but looks better than it performs.

Posted by Dangle on 14th May 2015

The parang I had came wothout a sheath and cost about £30. Really not a bad price at all. It came quickly and was well packaged. As a tool, I found it ugly to use. The handle would comfortably fit the hand of a big Texan or anyone else with particularly large hands and the weight would necessitate the owner of the hands to have a similar sized frame. The edge tapered too steeply to allow any real work on wood, while the combination of the weight and edge made it ridiculous on anything more whippy or on soft vegitation. I haven't used it beyond testing it out and getting put off by its performance. If it weren't for the review saying that after a serious regrind it was good, I would have given it a lower rating. It may suit some people, but it really didn't me.

    Wow! buy one

Posted by Tony Jedi of the forest on 14th May 2015

Again fantastic service from HH. I would describe HH as a shining example of what customer service is all about & a centre of excellance for customer service. Parang arrived today, on opening the box I had to check the invoice as I could not believe it was only £50! I was torn between this & the new Duku & I know I have made the right choice. As the sheath carries the new Condor logo I presume this is the latest issue. The fit & finish is perfect. The handle is unlike the red one in the photo & is a fine quality walnut which looks very good with a coat of teak oil. I have smallish hands but the handle is not too big as per the other review by Dangle. The grind is a well done scandie & is very sharp. I would say on a par with a Mora! As I intend to use mine for clearing bush & thick grass with the ocasional tree branch then I expect this to be the right kind of grind. The balance is about 3 inches from the handle so should not be tireing on the wrist. Condor are fast becoming market leaders, they realy seem to have sorted the quality control . I have half a dozen of their products & all are well designed & functional, built like tanks but with a good finish. All are highly recomended. As I have said in other reviews if thy were built in Scandinavia or the USA you would be expected to pay 3 or 4 times the price. They are that good.

    Must have

Posted by Jon Cuff on 1st May 2015

To think the sheath is £19 making the Parang only £29!!! quality is great. the steel alone must of cost more. has a real nice heavy feel, great balance. Great chopping power, like a shotgun going off, bites deep. Fun to use. If you don't have one of these, why not? have £200+ blades and this thing wins hands down. Oh and Hinnie haynes as usual next day delivery! Hurry before price goes up!!

Unexpectedly received this mighty parang as a birthday gift ! Well let me tell you , these guys at condor dont mess around ! A serious piece of well crafted steel ! Definitely not for the faint hearted ! Reasonably sharp out of the box , will need some working to get it razor sharp . The leather case is great quality as well . All in all very impressed and great service from heinnie!
