    Sharp hawk

Posted by Dalibor Berek on 12th Nov 2022

I've ordered it yesterday on 11th november and got it today, saturday. The hawk is a bit rough around the edges but it is fairly sharp right out of the box. The sheath fits perfectly and I am happy and satisfied... Heinnie Haynes- the best company and fastest delivery!

    Cold Steel Trail Hawk

This is my 5th Cold Steel Hawk/axe and the first that I haven't had to clean up the fitting around the head, they arrived looking similar to the photo to one degree or another. Considering how sharp CS knives are I'd have hoped for sharper edges on their hawks but I haven't found it to be so. I'm still a fan of them though and enjoy throwing them (badly)

    Cold steel Trail Hawk

Wow, this is my first tomahawk, so no previous to compare to. First impress, I absolutely love it. The head is small, so you think that's dinky, the blade edge is dull, the new rustic blacksmith coating is really nice, the handle is well shaped. Then you swing it, omg this thing bites like a rottweiler out of the box, tactically, it would undoubtedly'keeel', as a general tool, very capable. It slides in the belt and due to its compact form you could wear this all day long. It throws like a dream and sinks in up to the nuts with little effort. If you remember tradtional hawks are general purpose tool/weapons not specialised wood choppers like a granfors, then you will be amazed. Due to its compact form, in SHTF, it's perfect for combining with another or a spike hawk and wear on the belt all day with no issue.

    Needs work

Posted by Andrew on 12th Dec 2021

As new, the hawk has issues - the head is covered in a horrible black paint, the handle is too long (for my uses), there’s a horrible foil sticker on the head, the head is loose, there’s a useless grub screw, the edges of the eye are really sharp and burred, so the eye digs into the handle instead of friction fitting, and lastly the edge wasn’t sharp. I read a lot of reviews and watched a lot of YT videos about theTrail Hawk, so I knew all of the flaws before I bought it and knew I would have to correct them. After a couple of hours work with a hacksaw, sandpaper, round file, mill file, linseed oil, and a custom leather sheath, the hawk looks stunning. A tomahawk doesn’t chop or split as well as an axe or hatchet, but it’s lighter to carry and use than an axe/hatchet, I find it’s better at finer tasks like stripping, feather sticks, notches etc, also the head comes off easily and can be used on its own, and it’s easy to make a new/replacement handle. For short trips it is my go to tool, as well as the main tasks of chopping and splitting I also use it for most of the tasks I used to use a bushcraft knife for - so now, for the trips where all I’m doing is making fire and cooking, the only blades I carry are the Hawk and a Case folder.

    V. Light and adaptable, took the head off sharpened it a bit, Can be used with or without a handle in so many ways, Can also replace a knife if so desired.

Just what I needed for my pack, not sharp but didn't take much work to sharpen to a good edge. The grub screw was a pain to remove and rounded a hex key.
