Cold Steel Recon Tanto SK-5 Fixed Blade 18

Robust and tough, and razor sharp, sk5 seems to be a good steel, keeps its edge well while being robust, and sharpens easily on ceramic rods, beats knifes twice the price, would recommend.

This is a great outdoors all round camp knife, it's blade profile/geometry and shape has also been employed by the military for its versatility of functions aswell. The Sabre grind from the cutting edge to the flat section leading to the spine, the back of the blade gives the knife a very good slicing ability with extra strength because of the reinforcement of the flat section that runs all along the back of the knife where it terminate/ends in the American Tanto reinforced tip that gives this knife excellent penetrative power. The Tang of this knife is a Hidden Tang, and it runs as far back as the lanyard hole and it's a think Hidden tang also. I have researched designs/stlyes of tangs and Ths Cold Steel Recon Tanto Fixed blade has an extremely strong Hidden Tang. I have also checked this by using a small magnet which I ran all along the broad side of the Kraton/Rubber handle and also along the hands front and back and the magnet sticks all the way to where the lanyard hole is before the magnet loses its attachment to the handle. The Hidden Tang in this knife is only slightly smaller that the width of the actual knifes blade, and in the knife industry that is impressive aswell as good thinking. The SKS-5 1095 High Carbon Steel blade will keep a sharp edge for an extended period of time when compared to many Fixed blade Stainless steel knives. 1095 Steel has the sustainability to rust when exposed for prolonged periods of time to moisture and water, Sea water being the most corrosive water , but the hard wearing black Epoxy coated blade of the Cold Steel Recon Tanto gives the kniife a shield to help prevent the knifes blade from rusting. The Japanese Tanto blade shape/Profile also gives the knife an strong feeling of its purpose as a knife and definitely makes you feel that you are holding a tactical military blade, the blackness of the blade, handle and sheave making this so aswell. The Cold Steel Recon Tanto is a really great outdoors knife because it is strong and dependable, and it performs great and looks great too! The Sheave provided is one of the best Kydex, Cold Steel's own form of Kydex called is called Securex, and the sheave is practically indestructible and very hard wearing and keeps the knife safelu and firmly sheaved when not being used. This knife is truely great value for money, and it is a serious knife, it is a knife that you will be very happy to own. I have one myself and I know that I can relie on it when using it hard, aswell as for more detailed work. Great knife that I'm very happy to have !

Very nice blade with a thick tang for strength, good carbon steel , holds an edge very well even under heavy work , definitely recommended , handle very ergonomic 10/10 would definitely buy again , great value

Always been interested in this model. Very practical design, razor sharp from the box, great handle, and very adaptable sheath. Great military knife with a tactical purpose. You can do all the usual things you would need, cutting para cord, opening rat packs, boxes etc, digging a hole for your hexy burner etc. A nice balance in the hand and not too heavy. If I was serving today, it would make a great choice. As usual the Service from Heinnie regarding delivery time is excellent! This is one of the best on line suppliers out there.

I'd wanted one for years, but due the different changes in steel over time and various price changes I couldn't justify buying a knife that I have literally zero need for, and can't think of a reason where I could ever use this legally in the UK. But seeing other being sold at this price, I couldn't resist. Razor sharp, usual cold steel build quality. At this price I couldn't resist. Awesome
