This heavy Cold Steel Bush Ranger is a precision manufactured hardcore knife made for men who understand blades. It is not made for those among us who cannot deal with real work tools and who will find fault if something is not suitable for fancy pants footwork. This monster blade is heavy with a hefty lock and thick quality steel and G10 handle scales and mine needed breaking in the lock which once done delivered a beast of smooth quality to behold! Finally after decades buying and changing knives one that covers everything very well from camping hunting survival etc ( not uk legal carry- buy a spyderco pingo Ti- great knife for legal edc with a touch of class) This is in Higher end of cold steel line up. Arm hair Shaving sharp on delivery. Finish very good. Love handle shape especially oversized finger guard and thumb ramp. Prefer opener plate to other cold steel stud openers. Lover oversized blade pivot and chunky g10 handle. Texture fine as handle shape so good grip not a problem and hence more comfortable . Blade at max thickness for good slice ability but strong to. Bowie type blade shape great all rounder. Have to say best bang for buck knife i know of. Its strong and functional. ( note this is first impressions not had heavy use yet but all other cold steels had perform admirably) You can beat a triad lock- in a folder. Got three other cold steel folder ( ultimate hunter/ sr1/recon 1) all good but more limited to one or two tasks. This is hands down winner for me. Great service as ever from Heinnie.
I've got a few Cold Steel products, and I guess I prefer a fair few manufacturers over them usually. The Bushranger knives really are great, though. I bought a lite version first, just to 'dip my toe in the water', as they say, and that convinced me to go for the proper version...and I'm really glad I did! I'm a big fan of folding bowie- style blades and this one's just great. It reminds me of the SOG Tomcat from way back, but with a more solid lockup, smoother deployment, and higher end materials. Fit & finish is lovely, I really like the 'earth' coloured G10, and the blade deploys butter smooth on phosphor bronze bushes. Rides high in the pocket on the clip, but I guess it just reminds you that it's there..! Great service from HH as ever.
The Bush Ranger is a great folder, with many improvements over older models. At just under 5" closed this is a medium sized folder. Mine arrived oiled from the factory, and flawless. Viva Taiwan ! - It opens and closes perfectly. The pocket clip is not as tight as usual. The thumb-plate is better. The handle fits the hand very well (glove size large). Because I got this to use out-doors, I have removed the pocket clip, and put it in a pouch. If I was going to EDC it, I would keep the clip on. There seem to be some uninformed reviews on YouTube, so I prefer the one by a custom knife maker. So, for an informed review on YouTube, check out the one by - CMFTWknives - 6.31 min. Thanks to HH for a great price. I am very pleased with my purchase.
