The original Cold Steel 4 Max proved to be all that we hoped for, but it was expensive and difficult to manufacture and deliver in a timely manner to meet customer demand. The Cold Steel 4 Max Scout is easier to produce and is a far more affordable alternative. It features an extra wide, drop point blade and stone wash finish, which is identical to the original 4 Max. It's crafted from 5mm thick AUS 10A steel, for strength, toughness and edge holding potential.

The handle's silhouette mirrors the original. Instead of a G-10 handle the 4 Max Scout has one made of Griv-Ex with stainless steel liners and a Griv-Ex back spacer. Equipped with Andrew Demko's ground breaking Tri-Ad locking mechanism the 4 Max Scout has passed every one of Cold Steel's grueling shock and impact tests and then gone on to hold 600 lbs. of free hanging weight with no damage!

For when normal knives aren't enough... This is a brute of a knife, razor sharp out of the box... Superb for the price, great service fromm HH, as usual... Highly recommended...

    Cold steel 4max

This knife is built like a tank, its very large, with a very thick blade, the lock mechanism is one of the strongest out there, zero blade play after extensive use... if your looking for a big knife that's extremely sturdy, then look no further. Highly recommend.

    COLD STEEL 4-MAX SCOUT

Posted by Jon on 20th Aug 2024

Brought this for use in the Army. Not tested it much yet but all the other reviews seem true as so far it feels like it can take on many tasks. A folder can never really replace a fixed blade but this knife makes me forget that it is a folder at times. I needed a knife close to hand for jobs in the field and my fixed knife was taking up room on my kit and getting snagged up on things. Being a folder I can easily choose where best to place it even with it being a beast of a folder. It fits nicely into a magazine pouch which is an added bonus. If I pass this knife to someone else to use I’m not worrying about them damaging it through misuse, well I worry less. It is heavy for a folder but that is the trade off for its size and durability. One point to note is if you use it after only having a few hours sleep for a week, close it with two hands. Ouch.

It has just arrived and I couldn't be more happier what a size this knife is a tank of a folder with no wiggle of the blade it has a great handle with so far no hot spots and good grip the lock is a strong one why would you pay more? And thanks again to HH for another fast delivery.

Is this the folding knife for life?

Posted by Chris Hampshire on 5th May 2022

Yeah! Simply put, this is as close to a folding Bk2 you gonna get for approx £100 at time of writing. It’s actually just thinner than 5mm but with such a deep belly it slices as good as most beefier knives. Comes with simply excellent factory edge, it will get the convex treatment at some point but no need to do it from the box. Very useable shape, it’s so close to my fav Buck Omnihunter in shape I’m not afraid to give it a positive review so soon. It’s built like a tank, no wobble in any direction, action smooth as for such a chunky folder, several choice hand grips. Honestly this is a one knife for life deal even if you want to push the limits of a knife,. Drawbacks, not deep carry but it’s so big I’m not sure you could anyway!! And the size, it’s a folding fixed blade knife, not a gentleman’s folder, so it’s heavy. Whilst this strangely excites me, that may put some off, but think of it as a fixed knife (that tri-ad lock!) that doesn’t need sheath!! Take your Swiss Army knife for the fine stuff and this for everything else !! Simply awesome !! And of course HH as great as ever

    Bulldozer of a knife

Posted by Joseph on 6th Mar 2021

Slices perfectly. Huge belly. Heavy enough to chop, bites deep. Grivex is lovely. It's like mild skateboard tape very grippy. The handle allows for different grip styles for all kinds of work. It's a work knife through and through. Not light but who cares, it'll take anything you throw at it!

    Cold Steel at its best

Posted by Wideranger on 11th Feb 2021

Cold Steel make some really great knives and some that are a bit less spectacular. The Scout is Cold Steel at its very, very best. I was trying for a long time to get one for most of 2020. When I realised HH were stocking them I was too late. Out of stock! Clicked on the Notify me button and was thrilled when they restocked. I jumped on it immediately as I knew they would sell out. The knife is fantastic. It has the smoothest action of any CS folder I've used. Its a user, but also has some showmanship if you like that sort of thing. If you are used to XL folders you wont have any issues with this. Awesome heft, smooth action and just puts a grin on your face whenever its in handf. You will find any excuse to use it and I guarantee you'll use this the next time you need to cut some brisket! Highly recommended, get one if you can as who knows what will happen to Cold Steel now that they've been bought out by GSM Outdoors.

    Cold Steel 4 Max Scout

Posted by Graham Edwards on 9th Feb 2021

An excellent knife fits really well in the hand, chops well for a folder, but blade thin enough ground to slice well, grivory handle finish is grippy but does not cause hotspots like the Voyager handle, bit heavy for pocket carry more of a jacket pocket knife IMO. AUS10 keeps a good edge and sharpens easily on a sharpmaker and a strop, very happy with the knife.
