    Buck Toothpick #385

    Posted by C M Stevens on 5th Jan 2026

Overall a delightful little knife for the price. Blade and handle materials are of a good quality and the 'walk and talk' is very good with a nice snap on open and close. Edge not quite shaving-sharp but a quick strop soon sorted that out. These little guys are Chinese-made and whilst that should not deter anyone from buying one I have to point out that the quality control on my example was somewhat lacking - two of the handle pins were proud to the extent that I had to take a fine file to them to make them flush with the wood, and then finely sand the wood to remove the file scratches and get the polish back. The liners at the blade recess are machined very square and can be felt during handling. This is common on more expensive knives anyway so not really an issue and easily sorted with a couple of minutes with that fine file again to slightly round off the edges. What was unacceptable and made me nearly return the knife for a refund however was the bent blade! From just forward of the nail nick the blade curved to the left by 4 or 5 degrees so that when closed the point was just touching the liner. I figured that the stainless steel would be fairly easy to straighten so used a vice to carefully and incrementally persuade the metal back into shape. The blade now sits dead straight and perfectly centred when closed, and I'm happy again! I have other Chinese-made knives that were flawless straight out of the box so this particular example is probably a 'Friday afternoon special' and not representative. Other buyers seem to have fared better so don't let this review put you off from buying - it's a cracking little blade and I wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

Gorgeous little addition to my collection and highly recommended for any collector or as a desk companion to open letters or nostalgically sharpen a pencil.

Well built knife but so small, the photographs make it look much bigger, not really useable.

    Buck toothpick

Posted by Druid on 27th Jan 2020

Had my buck toothpick for about 5mths now and all I can say is buck where have you been all my life! Out of the box was sharp as a scalpel and has kept its edge very well with just a bit of stropping every now and again not had a need for a stone yet . Obviously there's restrictions on its use do to its size but one thing I do like about it is you can get it in to some tiny spaces to cut what ever , very useful indeed . Am I happy ? most definitely , is it worth the money ? 100% it is .
