Begg One Bolster Lock
Interesting blade; hollow recurved, compound ground, Japanese tanto type thing, VG10. Too much going on to be elegant, but the edge is thin and it cuts well. Technically this is a bolster lock, but it's a bit cheap looking; really more of an exposed end liner lock than a mostly covered frame lock, if that makes sense. The handle is comfortable and the G10 scales are done well with virtually no noticeable transition between them and the steel frame. The frame has limited weight reduction so the knife is heavy by modern standards, for it size. It is the same weight as an aluminium framed Microtech MSI, for example (maybe an unfair comparison). I don't mind VG10 or steel frame, but this could be done better for the price I think. It needed immediate maintenance, the detent was far too strong for the opening method and it was far from smooth to open, both issues easily fixed. It's fine, just feels old style build quality for a slightly ambitious price.
