    Antonini caltagirone

Posted by Tim on 29th Nov 2024

Very disappointing. For some reason thought buy an Italian knife and you will get quality. How wrong was I!,Have Chinese knives much better made.Scales unfinished, Scales uneven length movement in blade .Brass bolsters scratched..Style nice but total waste of time producing something which is so sub standard..Workmanship really awfully.

    Great little traditional knife

Posted by Oli on 25th Jun 2021

Bought on a whim as I collect traditional "peasant" folders like Opinel, lambfoot, hawkbills and the rest. Fit is very good and finish is a tad rough but if you have 400 or 800 grit sandpaper, oil and 10 minutes it is dead easy to rectify. To be honest at that price it is an absolute steal and I would much rather do it myself than pay much more for the factory staff to spend more time on it. Once done the wood comes to life and the Caltagirone looks great. The opening and closing action is perfect, so is the centering of the blade. Sharpness is good but you can perfect it with a ceramic rod, no worries there. Overall a nice light but solid "workhorse" feel, mostly thanks to the thicker blade A very good looking traditional folder well worth buying. I may have a look at the sicilian model next although the Caltagirone is also inspired by a traditional peasant folding knife. I had much worse for far more money in the past.

    Rustic...

    Posted by T.E. on 25th Oct 2019

I would describe it as 'rustic' out of the box, which as it costs less than a round at the pub I can live with. My example is tight, solid with no play and has a well centred blade which took a good edge, the wood needed a little tru oil as it was quite dry, no big deal. I quite like it, it has no pretensions, it is what it's described as, a solid worker for the type of stuff that you'd use an Opinel or similar knife for.
