    Stryke Trousers Tundra

Posted by Philip White on 18th Mar 2026

These are a great fit, feel well made, and hopefully won't develop holes and tears at the slightest touch of barbed wire or blackthorn, which most walking trousers do. A good combination of pockets in useful sizes. Downsides: Firstly, I don't see the point of the Teflon/PTFE coating. Even before the first wash I find that these trousers don't repel water and have to be left to dry after a bit or rain. Maybe it helps to repel some dirt, but mine are pretty muddy so it's only marginal. With all the current press about PFAS chemicals in the environment I'd prefer no PTFE, thanks. Secondly, a minor one, but Velcro on the pockets is convenient when new, but after a year or two it's usually clogged up with fibres from other garments and no longer very sticky. Press studs have better long term usefulness. As other people have commented for other colour variations of these trousers, the sizing is more generous than expected, so if you normally take a 36" waist in jeans then a 34" in these trousers will probably be closer to what you expect.

    5.11 Stryke Trousers

Posted by Jack on 12th Nov 2024

These are virtually the only trousers I wear. I got my first pair of 5.11 pants from HH about 15 years ago, and have had various 5.11 designs. All have been good, and I still have my first pair. After I purchased the Stryke trousers I never looked back, and wear them every day. I have them in various colours, but am currently wearing the first pair I bought, which have to be at least 10 years old, and most likely 12. When they are new, they shed water to some degree, but that only lasts a couple of washes. They tend to become more supple, as they age, and the colours fade, after many washes, which is most noticeable with the black. For me, the pockets are perfect, as is the fit. They are unbelievably comfortable, and hard-wearing. I was attacked by a dog, while on holiday in Greece, earlier this year, and while it ripped my 5.11s, I think they probably saved me a rabies shot. I can't speak highly enough about these trousers, and hope 5.11 keep them as they are for many years to come.
