The hunt for the ideal SAK...

Posted by Stevo on 7th Feb 2017

Over the years I've enjoyed using many SAKs. Finally, with a long trip coming up, I bought a Huntsman from my small local sports shop. Sorry, Heinnie. But I know I will use you again sometime soon.

The Huntsman epitomises my SAK requirements. At just a few grams more than my treasured Farmer, it was not much of an adjustment in weight, and I like the scissors as well as the saw. The back of the saw does all right with a fire starter for campfire needs, apparently. I do know that it made a good paint scraper on one memorable occasion, and with the right technique, light rapid action, the saw can serve as a pretty good wood rasp, where the material, tough plywood, would have been resistant to whittling.

I like to use it with a light non-locking pocket knife like an Opinel. Saves the SAK from rough wear and tear.

It's nice to have useful things on your person and be able to be helpful to others or just more prepared. For me, the Vic Huntsman (although I don't hunt) has a good balance of useful capabilities and lower bulk.

This one is popular, and rightly so.

      Love mine

Posted by Farmboy on 25th Oct 2016

Carried my huntsman exclusively for years and did things with it i never thought i would when i bought it and it has never ever let me down. Small things like cutting string and opening boxes it does with ease as you would expect. With mine i have cut a pallet in two with the saw to fix a broken gate, used the scissors to trim dirty wool off sheep, done post mortems on livestock, whittled, tightened countless screws and done a thousand other different things with it when ive found myself in the middle of nowhere without a proper tool to do a job. My huntsman now has a much smaller main blade from years of sharpening the scissors are loose from wear and the scales are chipped and look beat to hell. I love my huntsman weve been through a lot together and ive now retired it to my drawer replaced with a swisstool because i would hate to lose it. Still gets carried sometimes though and it is my go to can/letter opener in the house.

      Great product

Posted by Bungy on 21st Dec 2014

Sorry H/H I bought this before finding your site .This knife is great and consistent with the quality of all Swiss Army knives,as our laws here in the uk are so stupidly strict ,of all the knives I own ,I always end up with a swiss knife in me pocket if I'm out and about. To be honest I think like most of us prepared people out there who are practical enough to carry a knife,if I were in a s.h.t.fan situation ,I would at least have a reliable and trusted friend with me.I don't think you can beat the quality of this tool or any other swiss army tool in the victorinox range. Buy one you won't regret it and possibly like me it may spark a life long hobby collecting and using these great tools.

Great tool, ideal number of features, well made. Very slim compared to other Victorinox tools.
Ordered on Sunday night and received on Tuesday morning (how is that even possible? ), excellent service from HH.

Had 2 of these now. Broke the scales on my 1st through my own stupidity now is the regular tin opener in the kitchen draw, all the family love this one. New one even better than the 1st very rarely out of my pocket and pressed to any task from general wood working to standby for dressing deer in the field. Easily sharpened and holds a good edge, brilliant wood saw and not too many blades on this one not too bulky and every tool has a use. Great buy a little gem
