While the origins of the phrase "going commando" are up for debate, we’ve firmly settled on our favourite rumour. Nicknamed after members of elite units, this term was coined during the Vietnam War when soldiers were reputed to wear no underwear to increase ventilation and reduce moisture during combat in the humid jungle terrain. This shift offset the poorly performing cotton drawers that were standard issue.

When designing their TAD Commando Boxer Briefs, Triple Aught Design evaluated the constraints those in the field had to endure with inferior daily essentials and opted to create a low-profile silhouette built with the natural antimicrobial properties of Merino. Constructed to accommodate an active lifestyle, these boxer briefs are lightweight and cut for mobility. With flatlock seams and double-panel construction, these briefs offer a close, comfortable fit that moves with you and retains its shape during use. It’s safe to say that while you’ll clearly be wearing a base layer, it will feel as though you’re comfortably going commando.

Please use the TAD Fit Guide to ensure you find the right size.

Features:
  • Care Instruction: Designed for comfort and easy care. Wash warm, tumble dry low, and the garment will retain its size.
  • Active Merino: Unlike traditional wool, TAD Merino is comfortable against the skin and designed for performance. It naturally regulates body temperature, trapping heat for insulation when cold and wicking moisture to keep you dry. Even when wet, Merino can insulate. Naturally odour-resistant, it allows extended use without laundry concerns. Made using MAPP-certified Merino fibres sourced from New Zealand's alpine environments.

    Costly but worth it

Posted by Darrel on 13th Aug 2017

I've been using these for a few months now - repeated washing and multiple wearing - breath really well and stands up to the rigours of long term wear - costly compared to other merino brands but worth the extra few quid for durability and comfort

    Not bad

Posted by Monty on 24th Apr 2015

I picked these up in the States when TAD first issued them. They have been through several washes and multiple usage both within the UK and tropical environs. So far they have held up well and not fallen apart which has happened with other brands. They wash and dry easily . I appreciate base layers are a very personal choice and I found that these boxers breathe really well. No horrible sweating which I find can happen with the more lycra feel briefs. All in all a very comfortable and robust boxer for usage in a multitude of climates.
