Description

Spyderco’s popular SLIPIT knives are non-locking folders that combine the advantages of one-hand opening and clip carry with the legal permissibility of a non-locking mechanism.

Originally released in 2009, the Spyderco lightweight knife exemplifies all the best qualities of the SLIPIT concept and combines them with the weight-saving advantages of an injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handle. Its blade is machined from premium M398 steel—a high-performance stainless steel alloyed with cobalt, molybdenum, and vanadium. Its full-flat grind and leaf-shaped profile provide an exceptional balance of strength, low-friction cutting performance, and point utility. A prominent index-finger choil (finger groove) helps prevent unintentional blade closure, while Spyderco’s Trademark Round Hole ensures positive one-handed opening with either hand.

The Urban Lightweight’s textured FRN handle scales are anchored to the handle’s solid steel back spacer, which provides structural strength and serves as the spring for the knife’s notched-joint non-locking pivot mechanism. The handle also features a reversible deep-pocket wire clip that allows left or right-side tip-up carry and keeps the knife tucked low in the pocket for a discreet, socially friendly image.

    Not bad for the size

Posted by Randy Banks on 19th Mar 2021

This knife is well designed and crafted, like all Spyderco products and it is certainly a lightweight unit. Although its small size makes it very handy, I find it just a bit too small for my liking. The size, too, coupled with a fairly stiff notch joint, makes one-handed opening a bit more difficult than I'd like. On both fronts, I far prefer my UK Penknife, with which I'll be sticking for the foreseeable.

The knife is well made but a little smaller than I anticipated but ideal as an every day carry. Will probably pick something a little larger in the future. I think it is also on the expensive side for its size. Overall I like the Spyderco designs and

Would choose Spyderco again. I really like the Paramilitary 3 but unfortunately not permitted in the UK. Maybe for use in Spain

I'd like to start by thanking Heinne Haynes for having the best customer service of any online sales outlet I've ever used. So much more than speedy delivery: if you ring with a query you get straight through to an actual human being! And the human being is knowledgeable and so helpful. Returns are easy and swift. This is how to run online shopping. Thank you. Oh and the Spyderco Urban is awesome too.

    Awesome best EDC I’ve owned

Posted by Wood oak on 20th Jun 2020

A little smaller than the UKPK the Urban has a strong lock up when open, the strong retention allows the tool to feel solid and firm in the hand and with the finger choil you have an extra sense of hand safety security. Blade steel is good, rolls rather than chips but sharpens up easily enough and maintains a Very good sharp edge for light tasks that this knife was designed for. Wish they did these still in K390, I have a Pingo in k390 and its an amazing steel. Ergos are amazing as you’d expect from a Sal designed knife, and the pocket clip stays just out of reach of your fingers so as not to cause any hot spots. A little over priced considering for only £10 more you can get a UKPK in S30VN but having said that the Urban is only a little more than a normal UKPK. Anyway a great EDC tool, if you get one you will not be disappointed with it at all. Blades small enough to go un-noticed but large enough to achieve light tasks. It’s light in the pocket in that you can forget it’s there and the click is nice and strong but doesn’t destroy your pocket lining because it sits on top of a flat smooth surface. Buy one and enjoy

    Awesome knife, better than expected.

Posted by LB on 21st May 2020

Great little knife, I have the UKPK but wanted a smaller blade & the Urban was a perfect replacement. And as usual Heinnie Haynes service is excellent even in times of a pandemic they still manage to deliver the next day...

    Outstanding service, outstanding knife

Posted by SGoldia on 1st Mar 2020

I ordered my knife yesterday afternoon and by midday today it was in my hand - just exemplary service yet again from Heinnie Haynes. The knife itself is pure class. Lovely weight, compact but adequate for my needs, easy single hand opening and closing, with a firm but manageable action. Razor sharp out of the box with perfect blade alignment - I love it. I only wish they had it in more colours.

A great N690 UK legal knife

Posted by Alijami on 15th Jun 2019

I've had a Byrd Tern for nearly five years and what a fantastic value knife. Still going strong. Recently I was seduced into buying a N690 bladed UK legal carry knife. I was really disappointed but still fancied an N690 upgrade from my 8Cr13MoV class norm. I turned to the Spyderco Urban which has been on my radar for years, possibly held back by FRN scales over my preferred G10. However needs must and I finally pulled the trigger. I previously said that Tern surpassed expectations. The Urban fully satisfies higher expectations, scale material excepted. In many ways I compare this with the Tern rather than the UKPK. The handle length is fine for a four finger grip for small to medium hands. Peeps with large hands may find it a tad small. The blade is about the same length as the Tern but has a longer cutting edge due to tang/choil/handle differences. In practice it perfectly safe and comfortable though the Tern wins out at the half-stop. Full flat grind so a great slicer. A great size when there is no need to push the UK legal edge limit. I'd like to say just buy one but I seem to have got the last one in stock.
