I used one of these for years putting up marquees. It was stolen on the job about 7 years ago. I've not much use for it nowadays. I bought it again to have in my collection and I'm so glad I did. This really is a beautifully constructed knife. I'd forgotten how much I loved it. Every now and again you get a reminder that no matter how far you stray from Spyderco, they really are still the main player out there. The Harpy was my reminder.
Just starting to get into knives and understand the beauty of their build and form as well as function. Very pleased with my first Spydeco and love the Harpy. use it for gardening as its so nice to handle and trim plants with in the greenhouse. Its very tactile and feels beautiful. Im sure you can tell im very pleased with this knife. Will be saving up to get more.
Amazing workhorse! This tool was bought for use on the ship for synthetic and natural ropes, plastic ties and various other odd jobs. It has already strolled through the above and not thought twice. It's a much bigger knife than its small size suggests, easily getting on with the big jobs I would normally choose a fixed blade for- now redundant. If the law allowed this would be my edc, any chance of an all steel construction Spy DK guys? This would be the ultimate work/play combo for those of us preferring the steel scales on "proper" sized folders inside the limits of the law...
I got this delivered this week, usual great service from Heinnie, not so great from UPS. I did try to get to the show room to have a look before I leapt but unfortunately it's not open on a Saturday! OK so the knife. This is the 3rd Spyderco I've bought including the fixed blade Shemprock and the budget range tenacious. Both this and the Shemprock are made in Seki City Japan out of VG10.. The fit and finish are awesome, the lock is such a great system compared to the slip locks I own. This is by far the prettiest knife I've ever held or seen, but it's also the 1st that I have ever been scared of! I'd wanted a Harpy since 1st reading Hannibal in my late teens, just like Dr Lecter this blade is refined, small, hypnotic and very, very scary!
As advertised by Hannibal Lecter. This is a great knife for cutting through any fibrous material. It is fantastic for rope and cardboard and the point is sharp enough to clear the eyes on even small fish hooks. Very sharp OTB and has a nice weight in the hand. It is also very good in the garden cutting through brambles and ivy with ease. Solid, durable and chunky with a reassuringly well-engineered locking action, this knife should last for years and years. Once again, great service from HH, with next day delivery.
This is a really solid and extremely useful knife. I've used mine almost daily for about a year and it is still ridiculously sharp. One should always be careful with any knife but I find myself being extra cautious with this one in use and when opening and closing. It looks very shiny and a bit classy but it is a really heavy duty tool. Excellent.
The Harpy was one of Spyderco's original Clipits, that brought onehand opening, serrated folding blades and pocket clips to the market for the first time. As with all Spydies, it's made using great materials with meticulous attention to detail, combining stunning aesthetics with superb, functional reliability. Harpy is wickedly sharp and cuts fibrous materials like a hot knife through butter. As with all the orginal Clipits, it's top class and therefore highly recommended. Buy one
Not just a knife, it's a superb piece of engineering that's just as strong and sharp as the eagle it's named after.
