I'm more of a cigar smoker etc but may get a proper pipe at some point. The blade and pokey bit are quite slim and very useful. The whole penkife is very good looking and disappears into the pocket. Although it says shaving sharp its maybe not quite that and i did actually try it out that way in the bath but no way i could shave with it out the box... either sharpness or blade geometry i dunno. The pokey bit seems deliberately angled towards the blade for safety reasons as it would catch too much on fabric and suchlike. There were gaps in the caulk or filler material at the opening front which isn't great but i can easily put some resin or something in there. Great for the money.
Don't know how RR can get the quality and workmanship for the money. Attractive and fun knife ... I may sharpen the punch for grater utility.
Beautiful finish and very sharp out the box. The scales are lovely and I can see why they didn’t put a dedicated tamper on it, it would mess with the line and effect the sleekness of the design. My only issue is that the tip of the sheep’s foot blade sits so proud of the handle that you can’t tamp very deeply into your bowl when it’s closed, other than that it’s great and very tactile.
Not a bad pipe knife. There is no dedicated tamper, although the none-hinged end can be used as such because it's flat. The prodder tool sits some way proud of the handle when closed, which is odd. Fit and finish a bit vague. The tobacco bone scales are fine looking, a really nice colour and texture, which lifts this knife into the 4 star category.
A wonderful knife for the money. You dont have to smoke a pipe to appreciate this beauty. Top HH service as usual
I rarely smoke my pipe these days, occasionally tucked in close to the campfire and it's lovely. I'm usually burning a finger tamping the tobacco, or looking for a matchstick sized twig to poke into the bowl to loosen the plug or tamp it down. This knife has a tamper on the end, a blunt spike for prodding the bowl or stem, and a blade with a non-safety match striker (Swan Vesta) for scraping the bowl out. All in all it's a lovely little thing, blade is centered on mine. The Rough Rider brand is generally very good for fit and finish, this pipe knife is no exception.
