    My second Pathfinder bottle

Posted by IAN MORAN on 24th Nov 2020

I have used this system for a good few years now and it’s bomb proof. Easy to pack and easy to clean. This system is very suitable for an environment with a fire no need need for stoves or expensive water filers. Just sit back and watch some bushcraft TV and listen to it boil. Old fashioned water purification made simple.

    needs improvements or diy tinkering

Firstly, this nests perfectly around the pathfinder round mug(round canteen set). The cut out section fits perfectly around the cup handles. It's solid enough to be lightweight but not flimsy. Now for the problems. 500ml of water takes an age to boil, even with a tight fitting lid on the cup and normal autumn weather. I'm never in a hurry but this is even too slow for me. It's not the stove stand sucking the heat from the burner, it just restricts the airflow too much. A standard trangia burner & tatonka burner both extinguish unless there's a good breeze. As mentioned in another review, you can add bolts to the 4 holes to lift the pot off the stand , this helps the air flow and burn. I just don't think we should be doing this to a new item, it should be done correctly from the manufacturer. I think the pathfinder burner would be even more useless because it's taller. The best burner I've tried without and bodging the stand is one of the titanium alcohol stoves. They have a top ring or holes and a lower ring that draws air in from the stands gaps better. It doesn't extinguish itself. Still takes an to boil. The best method I've found is to light a fire under it, work perfectly every time and you can poke at it to get air flow. If you need to use meths either add 4 bolts , use the clone ti burner or the trangia in a good breeze. It does make a good storm shield.

Pathfinder Bottle Stove and Nalgene SS 32oz water bottle with Tatonka Mug

Posted by Clive on 18th Jan 2019

The bottle stove nests perfectly with my SS Tatonka mug which then nests perfectly with my Nalgene 1.1L SS straight sided water bottle. This makes a lovely compacty brew kit. They look like they were made for each other

    Dimentions

I had to search for hours and hours to find this but ill save you the time , it actually fits around the mug itself so you can as i do use a cup for the bottom and the top of the waterbottle , or in my light kit i can now just take the cup and this cooker . Apart from that its sturdily enough built and does the job it was meant to do , if you do find it snuffing out your chosen heating option place four bolts in the four corner pieces to improve air flow
