The John Nowill Survival Knife is a British-pattern knife made in Sheffield to original British MOD specifications. The blade is made from phosphated Carbon steel and measures 17.5cm (7in) long and 0.6cm (¼in) thick, with strong wooden scales, held to the tang with copper rivets.

It's never going to win any beauty contests, but it more than makes up for that in its all-round usability. This is a hefty tool, designed to be used, and constructed to last. It has a balance in the hand that can only be appreciated in the flesh, but once you’ve put your trust in this companion, it should last you a lifetime.

The knife is supplied with a sturdy brown leather sheath which is designed to be worn on the left side of the body.

    The Beast!

Posted by Ken on 10th Feb 2023

I bloody love this chunk. Yes, sheath is gash, so I made a new one, the handle is basic, so I spent some time shaping it perfectly to my grip, the edge needs some work but now it holds a razor edge through severe use. It's about 7mm thick looks modest, but really comes alive in the chop and battoning mode, it absolutely destroys whatever you put in front of it. I love it so much, I'm making a 10 inch version in homage.

    Understood

I was issued this knife and it was with me all around the world. It served me well (so much so I stole it, sorry MOD). It’s not a bushcraft knife, it’s a bit rough on the handle but it’s incredibly strong. Shape the handle if you want. It’s a knife for a soldier and will do anything a soldier needs. If you want to go into the woods and tickle some wood it’s probably not for you. If you want a mega strong not too refined knife for life you’ll love it. You can customise it to what you want and it’s not so expensive that you wouldn’t dare, just YouTube it.

    Dreadful!

Posted by SalfordJim on 14th Mar 2022

I can’t remember ever giving a review as negative as this one! This knife is horrendous… it won’t cut anything because of the anti-vandal paint on the blade … the handle is as uncomfortable as everyone says it is… and the sheath is cheap & nasty and not even riveted together properly. I had mine for less than week before I gave it away! On the positive side..,the service from Heinnie was brilliant, as always!!

    Whats not to love

Had mine over 20 years when they were given out. It been my go to for camp trips round garden , hunting the lot, even carver a very rough spoon with it. It does everything I want in a basic simple way and i know it will never let me down, heavy ? yes, rough? yes depnedable? yes . nothing more to say
