Leatherman free T4, Great Little Tool

    Posted by Big-Fat-Grandad on 13th Jan 2020

I ordered mine on the 5th July 2019 and I received it on the 6th July 2019, Fantastic service from hennie haynes as usual, I think the tool is great for what it is, it is a new tool not a copy, it's not meant to be a wave, charge or surge it is a T4, it fits into your pocket and after a few minutes you don't even notice it there, it is perfect for small everyday jobs, if you are doing something harder take your wave, charge, surge with you instead, You can open every tool on it one handed just like the P4 and K4 that I also have.

    Perfect

Leatherman have done it again, the new free range is everything and more. The same reliable multi tools they have always produced except now totally one hand opening friendly.

I really want to like the T4

Posted by Ben on 7th Apr 2019

I sort of do, but I have to agree with Bruce on certain points.

I pre-ordered for £89.95 and Leatherman lowered it's prices of all Free tools by about £15 but they're still overpriced in my opinion. T2 and T4 are $40 and $60, so why are we paying £50 and £75 then? Don't get me started on the P2 and P4. If the price is lowered to £100 I would consider the P2 but as it stands it's way too much even at £145.
I bit the bullet on the T4 as it was the one tool I liked the look of and wanted Leatherman's version of a SAK, but wasn't really happy paying £90 for it. I would like to add a thanks to Heinnie for giving a £15 gift card as compensation not many companies would do that and it's appreciated.

Back on point. Yes, the T4 seems like a mainly plastic build!? Why?? Not saying that it's built badly as it isn't, it just looks cheaper I guess. The tools are funny as well. Start with the good.
Like the knife and scissors. Scissors are always very good on Leatherman's. Philips is okay but would prefer a 3D version. Or maybe a bit driver like the Wave etc? Package opener/flat head, seems solid enough too. Tweezers, always handy.

The bad. File, pretty useless as it's so small and narrow. Awl, needs a point not another flat head. Not too bothered though as I don't tend to use awls much.

To sum up, could have been better and hope it holds up like my other Leatherman's do, only time will tell I guess. Happy that it came with a pocket clip too as from what I've seen the T2 doesn't! Again, baffled by Leatherman's decision.

    Slightly disappointed

Posted by Bruce on 7th Apr 2019

Received mine today after weeks of waiting.
Not a bad tool but I would expect more from Leatherman.
Most of its bulk is plastic, sandwiched between 2 thin stainless steel handles. The Boker Plus Tech tool 5 is a better tool in my opinion for 2/3 of the price.
