    Pretty bad

Posted by Raindog on 2nd May 2020

I've come to expect, after years of searching, that the only way to get a good Sgian Dubh is to hand forge and make one yourself. This one is typical of the type, being blunt, stainless steel, and poor quality sheath. I have a 'Damascus' one, which is let down by the sheath, and plastic gem stone glued to the handle. I might take that Damascus blade and attempt to make a new handle and sheath for it.....Pity manufacturers can't just produce a nice one.....

    Heavy

Was very surprised at th weight of this knife ! The horn handle was huge , plus ground so that it was nearly all white and slippery in the hand . Sheath is plastic and metal , also heavy ! Cap on pommel plain stainless steel . Sgian duhb are meant to be worn in the top of a sock . Hmmmmm, strong socks needed for this heavy bulky knife ! I suppose it looks pretty from a distance ......... Add to which it made with stainless steel , which to be fair I knew , but it is hard to find a proper carbon sgian duhb theese days , So a replica of a traditional knife made with modern materials. My fault for going with stainless steel , If you like shiny flashy knives then this is for you . Not me . I have actually replaced the handle with a nice piece of ash , much better now , my wife used it as a steak knife ... She likes it The hunt for a carbon one continues ...
