Description

The first Higonokami knives were made as early as 1896 in the Japanese town of Miki. After the last samurai were forbidden to carry swords in public, many blacksmiths started to make knives. Higo no Kami was then an honorary title for especially powerful samurai, and it quickly became the name for the knives produced there.

Since the production in the Japanese town of Miki the classic Higonokami style has hardly changed.

The Higo Kinzoku Damascus is a lovely tribute to the knifemaker's art. This version is made in China. The handle is crafted from one piece of folded metal, the knife is opened by a lever (Chikiri) on the back of the blade. By pressing the lever while holding the knife, the blade is kept open.

    I am in love

Posted by Bob on 27th Mar 2020

I just received a pair of these, they come in a little presentation cardboard box. The layering of the steel is just beautiful, in the top layer there's a rainbow pattern and in the sunshine the layers shine silver gold and contrast with the darker steel. I have dozens of Higonokami but these two are not going to be used - I will just look at them and stroke them.... Seriously these are fantastic, a hand forged damascus japanese blade for £25!!!

    unbelievable price

A hand forged damascus clad san mai blade for 26 quid how is this possible. It will need sharpening to reach it's true potential , japanese water stones are the most successful sharpening medium to use as they cut the extremely hard steel whilst polishing it to a super fine edge. Mine will slice wavey cuts down news paper and is absolutely hair popping sharp , the grind geometry is perfect for slicing through vegetable matter and meat, it will also carve wood with ease. Don't let the bargain price put you off to be honest these higo will hold their own against much more expensive knifes I took a De Villiers damascus micro impi out of my pocket to give mine a rotation , and the higo out preforms it on the cutting front ang also has quality's such as being hammer forged rather than cnc made. This is a time tested design that will be appreciated by experienced collectors and users, I would highly recommend getting one while Heinnie have them available it's worth ordering the brass handled version at the same time.
