CRKT Hex Bit Driver Tool

It took me a while to decide that I really needed one of these. I was already very pleased with the Mecarmy SDG2, which is a more expensive hex bit driver. But I use them in different places so I took the plunge. The CRKT bit driver appears to be well made. I like the weight, and the spinner on the end serves a practical purpose for me - I may have been a fidget once, but those days are long gone. I tend to agree with one of the other reviewers that the knurled section of the tool is too far down the tool. It's too close to the bit end. My fingers can reach it, but it's not where they would prefer to find it. And even then, the knurling is probably not grippy enough for my liking. The Mecarmy SDG2 may not be as aesthetically pleasing as the CRKT, but more thought has gone into the SDG2, and it doesn't take much time using the two tools to work this out. One star knocked off for the ineffectiveness of the knurling, and because the Mecarmy has to score higher. PS. Great service from HH. Ordered in the morning, and delivered by hand in the evening. Quality love it

I must admit that I bought this because it looked like it would make for good insta posts. Now that I have it, I love it. A tad heavy at 68g but looking this good is tough and tough it certainly is. The magnet holds the bit secure and the bearing on the handle allows for great dexterity in hand. It also doubles up as a great fidget spin.

I use various types of palm screwdrivers, and this one looked very useful and appeared at first glance to be well made and thought out, so I bought one to check it out, before ordering more. The driver was well packaged in the usual CRKT knife box, and inside was a leaflet detailing how to look after your knife, which seemed odd because I hadn't bought a knife. The driver was in a thick plastic bag, and on getting it out my first impressions were of a well made precision tool, with a satisfying heft about it, and with a quality "fidget spinner" bearing on the end of the handle to allow smooth rotation in the hand. So far, so good, but it does have some issues. The first is the knurling that has been created at the bit end to allow better grip. Unfortunately when using the driver with the bearing in the palm of my hand, the knurling is out of reach even for my big hands.the knurling should have been at the bearing end of the thick part of the shaft. I'm amazed CRKT missed that. Surely they test their products thoroughly before production? Another little niggle was that I would have liked the bearing to be easily removable for the occasional cleaning etc, or to replace it should it become corroded. That's just a personal afterthought though. I the popped a bit into the driver and it gave a satisfying click as it locked into place magnetically. However,when I removed the bit, the magnet from the driver was firmly attached to it, and no longer in the driver as it should be. That's where this driver lost a point from me because that should never have been possible. All that said, it's still a good heavy duty bit driver and it wouldn't put me off buying another, but I will be putting it in my lathe to put some knurling further up the handle, and I'll be looking out for a super strong adhesive to fix the magnet firmly and permanently into its rightful place.
