The Black Fox Bean Gen 2 is a Serge Panchenko design for Black Fox knives. Available in three handle materials; Zebra wood, stainless steel and G10, this is a UK friendly carry pocket knife of superb quality and innovation.

The excellent functionality of the flat stainless steel slipjoint is packaged in a reduced design with clear lines. The modified sheepsfoot blade of 440C has an oval thumb hole for easy opening and a pocket clip on the back (tip-up) adds to the knife's practical functionality.

What is even more impressive is the low price for a knife of such excellent quality.

    Black fox bean gen 2

I can see why this knife gets very good reviews. It's excellent. Very well made, shaving sharp, and feels good in the hand. Looks very classy too. It's an excellent little EDC.

    Further review

Posted by JR on 27th Sep 2020

I reviewed the G10 version of this knife in early July having owned and used it for a couple of weeks. I really liked the knife at that time but was finding it a bit of a struggle to open one handed. However, over the last few weeks it's had more use and has loosened up/worn in and it's far easier to open one handed than before. It is a sturdy, well made and useful legal edc knife and now I'm not struggling to open it one handed I've upgraded my rating of it to 5 stars. Good value and recommended.

    I absolutely cannot fault it

Posted by Ben Huggett on 7th Sep 2020

I've had this knife for months now and I absolutely love it. It's tiny. Just slip it into your pocket and you'll never really know it's there. The blade is only made of 440C which isn't the hardest wearing, but then again that's not what the knife is made for. For every day tasks like opening parcels, letters, cutting ropes and anything else your EDC knife might be used for this is the best I've found. I have the G10 variant and frankly I'm glad I went for it. It feels nice and grippy in the hand and it fits in with everything else I own. The knife is easy enough to open with one hand (you can adjust the detent tension with the screws on the side in order to make it tighter, or looser on opening. I have mine set to be as stiff as possible, but it's still easy to flick out with your thumb. Because the blade is fairly small it's not going to cause much uproar if you get it out in a public place - even the tacti-cool G10 isn't exactly alarming to weald. I find myself fiddling with it more than I'm proud to admit to. The clunk it makes when it snaps open is addictive. Others have already remarked on this, but the pocket clip is a bit of an annoyance, firstly it's probably too tight to actually attach to your pocket easily, it also leaves the knife poking way too far out of your trousers which looks odd. I've removed mine now but it's a tough little bugger and took some real force to undo. The screws holding it in are coated in Loctite and my god it works. As an EDC knife it's brilliant, with the pocket clip removed I couldn't ask for better. Are there better metals? Yes. Do you need them? No. Are there larger more 'useful' blades? Yes. Do you need those? Again, probably not. I'd highly recommend you pick one of these up. It won't disappoint.

Poor quality control or serious design flaws? I think both.

Posted by KHGWW on 4th Aug 2020

I want to start this out by saying this was my first order from Hennie Haynes and the delivery time is phenomenal. Ordered midday on Monday, arrived Tuesday morning. Now for the knife. After arriving this knife fell apart after two hours of opening. I say opening because all I had done was flip the knife open a few times and carried it. I hadn't even cut anything. the bottom screw had come out and wouldn't screw back in. i later found the hole for this screw hadn't been drilled properly so i pullout out my hand drill and did it myself. I thought this could have been a freak error or something but i then ran into my next problem. the knife had no edge. Not blunt but simply not properly machined so it had no sharp edge. I have spent hours with a stone re profiling the edge but its still not all that sharp. I'm pretty sure the screw should be longer so there was no risk of the first issue happening but idk what happened with the second knife. My experience with this knife is that it is not built to last but given how popular this knife is I suspect mine was simply one that slipped past quality control.

Trying to stick with just one

Posted by Rob on 20th Jul 2020

A small pocket knife that would be forgettable (it is small in hand and pocket) if it were not so useful. A UK friendly knife that i bought on a whim due to the design (zebra wood) and i have found that I EDC it. So much so that I have also bought the G10 so that I can leave them dotted around. This is not a knife for heavy work or suited for long tasks. The clip isn't deep carry and it is 440C steel. None of this matters given what it is. It is perfect for dismantling those never ending packages, is not offensive to use in (knife wary) public and is suitable for most household tasks. Great little knife. Trying to convince myself i don't need the steel one, to complete the set.

Not the easiest one handed opener

Posted by JR on 4th Jul 2020

G10 version. A well made, sturdy and useful sized pocket knife. Blade sharpens easily with a Lansky blademedic. Feels good and grippy in the hand. Only downside is that it's a little tricky to open one handed, it is possible but not as smoothly as some of the other one handed openers I have. Overall a decent legal edc .

Great little knife but not a fan of the pocket clip

Posted by Jonny on 19th Jun 2020

This is a great little knife for the price. I have the G10 version and it's extremely solid feeling with a really nice action. The blade has no side to side play and the centering is spot on. The black finish on the metal parts is well done and will look even better once it starts to wear more. Pretty sharp out the box and with a quick strop The only thing I don't like is the pocket clip. If it was deep carry without the Black Fox writing, which is quite pronounced on the black version, would make this almost perfect as a great value little everyday knife well within the UK laws.

    Adequate

Posted by Ben on 6th Jun 2020

I've had my eye on this for a while. Chose the g10 with stone washed black blade as I wanted something a bit different to things I already had. It's a great little knife. Brilliantly designed. If I could change anything it would have to be to make the whole thing about 10mm longer in the handle and blade. Also I love the flipper on the blade that was on the original serge gen 1 versions. The flipper would definitely be great for people with meaty thumbs.

Exactly What you want a knife this size to do.

Posted by Lewis on 24th Apr 2020

Lovely little knife. Already used to cut rope and open parcels and that’s exactly what you want from a knife this size. Blade construction is great and as with all Heinnie products it comes sharp straight out the box.
