M4 Sherman in need of repair.
When I received this knife the blade was in terrible alignment. The Micarta scale being almost double the distance compared to the metal side from the pivot screw & the pin that connects the scales together across the pivot came out of the metal scale on opening & closing the knife. I own the Tiger Damast & it really is flawless. I expected nothing less from the Sherman but was disappointed ( probably like the brave fellas who had to take on German engineering in the Second World War). However I have British engineering in my blood & decided I could probably sort it out. The fix turned out to be simple. I removed material from the steel washer which sits on the Micarta scale side of the pivot. After several attempts I finally removed enough material to be satisfied & also allowed the pin behind the pivot to sit correctly in both scales. I suppose it’s a testament to how much I like these historical blades, that I decided to keep it & correct it myself. If you have or buy one of these check where the blade sits on the pivot between the scales. I’m sure mine was probably a one off, or maybe it’s a design thing. Anyway I’m now much happier with my M4 Sherman.
