    Ultra light big knife

    Posted by J. D. on 18th Jul 2020

Seven inch blade. Over a foot long. But only 5.2 oz on my electronic scale. Feels incredibly liight in the hand for its size...like a conductor's baton. Big handle suits me fine, especially with my favorite saber grip. Balance on the built in guard/front quillion. Although you could hold it like a Leuku, with three fingers on the handle, there isn't enough weight to chop anything except small stuff. I wouldn't cut off the rear quillion/beak/hook, which ensures safe retention. I've seen examples online where the pommel is squared off to save at most an inch while still having good retention. But you could lose the lanyard hole depending on how much you take off. And a squared pommel would just dig into my palm with a saber grip, so I left it unmodified. The swedge on the spear tip is for penetration , it is a pig sticker after all. Lots of wild pigs in the Antipodes. I suppose a simple drop point sans swedge would be better for a bushcraft/general purpose knife. Long enough to use as a draw knife. Convex edge. I keep it really sharp with a ceramic stick. Have a water cooled stone grinder, and a belt grinder if it ever needs regrinding...if ever. They keep costs down by not finishing the spine after stock removal. If you think of this knife as a big Mora, you'd be on the right track.Perfectly acceptable, better than the basic Moras. whose spines look like the famous 120 ton press tore the blade blank out of the steel(which it did, when you think about it:)). If you patina the blade with vinegar, the knife is really alll business. The sheath has good retention, but is really terrible. Way oversize though light. Slit for running your belt through...close to a sharp blade. I like my trousers to stay up. Keeps the blade safe in a toolbox but useless if you want to wear the knife outside in the woods/orchard. Should have a proper dangler, or even a leather/nylon loop equivalent for a knife this long. Think of the flexible leather belt loop on the sheath for the Mora 2000. People who complain about the great functional Fallkniven zytel sheaths should examine this Svord one side by side:). So I give the sheath one star, but cannot bring myself to take anything off the knife. Cheap and cheerful, all business, and worth the money. Stick it in another sheath and enjoy knife therapy camping or whatever. Thanks to Heinnie for making knife lovers happy, even in the age of plague. Stay safe out there.

    Great Dispatcher

I have used this knife to slaughter dozens of pigs now. Does the job with ease - good quick k*l without much distress, and squealing Pig sticker by name; pig sticker by nature. Well done Svord.

    Nice knife .

Posted by John Price on 2nd Sep 2015

Well it came razor sharp out of the box with a leaflet telling you how to keep it that way . The grip is fine and will be better when the flash around the join is sanded down , it should perform well around a camp site . Now the bad bit , though is states leather sheath on HHs website it is actually a "3mm triple layer PVC with brass rivets and sharpener holder" and is as awful as it sounds. My 12 inch butchers steel just rattles around in the holder, not that youd want to carry one that big , even my Parker pen just drops through the thing .. The whole knife disappears inside the the badly made thing leaving about half an inch sticking forlornly from the top , you have to fit a lanyard whether you want too or not otherwise you will never get the knife out if your hands are wet , cold or in gloves . It really looks like its been made in China by the worst craftsman they could find . No belt loop just a couple of slots like in the folding knife sheaths they make . So Good blade , ok grip , the worst sheath ever and really worth £30 tops as it is .Great service from HH as always but I dont think they're keeping an eye on their cutlers or maybe just failing to update the info in the description .

A real user & good value buy

Posted by Martin on 13th Feb 2014

Comfortable grip for all but the largest hand.. A few passes on the oilstone gave a razor- sharp edge.Brilliant knife for all food prep. Keep one in your camping kit.. with a lanyard so you can get it out of the sheath!

    A kiwi classic

Posted by Mark b on 20th Jul 2011

This knife is simple but very nice and has some of the best knife advice I've seen included in the box. Kiwis take their knives seriously and when they describe it as a Pig Sticker remember they probably mean WILD PIG. If it can stick through their hides then it can probably stick anything short of a Rhino. The lost star is only due to the sheath, I wouldn't want to draw it in a hurry. However the knife is a damn fine buy at this price.

    its ok...

Posted by Michal on 11th Apr 2011

Perfect knife for slicing and cutting, sandwiches, watermelons, tomatoes - not a problem. Sharp enough for many tasks. Perfect kitchen knife for acamping, perfect sheath. I haven't tried it yet for any pig sticking, but I bet it's ok. And, as usually, perfect service from Heinnie!!
