Beautiful knife just a shame no stainless version
I bought this to join my small collection of EDC knives as a little birthday present to myself. The listing stated the blade material to be stainless steel and I considered this to be important as since my father bought me a Victorinox as a present I've always stayed with SS, so much better than those cheap Sheffield made knives I had as a kid with blades that always discoloured. Anyway, as usual, the knife arrived the next day and looked even better in the flesh than on the website. Fit and finish were spot on and it is a seriously sharp knife from the box, however something didn't sit right from the off. The knife came wrapped in vapour check paper and the blades were covered in a lot of oil, both things I'd not seen with RR knives before. When the oil was wiped off the blades they looked shiny but somehow not quite as shiny as usual and no 440A etched on them. I did some digging on line and discovered that many places were listing them as carbon steel? Concerned I emailed HH immediately and quickly received a reply from Nick who promised to look into it. I told him that I wanted to keep the knife but to be aware that I suspected the knife wasn't stainless. I really thought I'd get on with the knife, it looked so good that if I was right, not being stainless wouldn't matter. Several weeks later I found the tarnishing and sight of a pinhead of rust already developing was annoying me so I emailed Nick again. I have to say Nick has been very helpful and always replied promptly. He has now arranged to swop the knife for a stainless model The Wasp and I have just returned the Denim in the post at HH expense. It's a pity most companies don't offer the standard of customer care HH do that is certainly 5 star. The knife itself is beautiful and the nices looking Barlow on the site I think. If you are a collector or happy to have patina on your blade I can totally recommend this knife. In fact if they ever do bring a SS Denim model out I'd buy one in a heart beat. It's just that for a daily carry my preference for ease and peace of mind is stainless. First class service from HH though .
