    Esee Izula with kit

Posted by AJT on 15th Mar 2021

Nice knife.I guess you could wear it as a neck knife using the para cord which you get with the kit option but personally I’m not keen on the idea, I really want to get myself the micarta scales for this knife. I love the powder coating, the basic design and look. I’m not too keen on the scabbard as it takes a real good pull to get it out. In fact you’ve got to grip both scabbard and knife so hard that it does worry me a little as an inexperienced user or the first time user of the knife could underestimate things and then there’s a nasty accident, or maybe I’m just being a little too wary. The Izula has been in one or two subscription boxes stateside so it’s been a fairly decent production run.

    Hard use - update

    Posted by silent1 on 14th May 2012

This is the essence of a cutting tool! I have a lot of small fixed bladed knives and this is after years still the best. The Becker Eskabar handles kit can be used on the Izula - but it requires a bit of reshaping the handles which I did with a knife. With these handle scales epoxied in place it's a brilliant little knife. It weighs 81g with the Eskabar scales without the 20g sheath. Pair it with a 7 inch folding saw and you have the lightest and most efficient cutting tool combo for bushcraft. The handle is most likely a bit small for many people but I still like! Don't be scared of the skeletonized handle - it's Tough!! Although I have not but hammered the knife a lot - only slight when replacing the knife while batoning.

    izula v 2.0

Posted by cultcollector on 20th Mar 2012

dDecided with some guidance from HH to try the 2. Was going to order the 1 with handles the 2 already has them fitted. Overall similar to the 1, slightly longer, bit heavier, great piece of kit. Sharp otb, lifetime warranty. V.happy. Usual blindingly fast service from HH. A side point to consider I have recently bought a similar knife from Tops, although different warranty the Tops have a better overall finish and higher materials and was around same cost. Strange because many complain about Tops being overpriced.? Whatever you choose order from Hennie Haynes.

    Goat residue on my knife?

Posted by Jonas Harnesk on 23rd Dec 2011

When the Maasai people swung there machete I quickly realized that the lack of weight in the blade made the chopping down firewood a bit hard. I used my knife with the scales attached and a stick to baton down some larger dry branches for the fire that evening and one of the Maasai recognized my blade as a ?good blade?. Later on when they were to slaughter a goat one of them asked me if he could borrow the knife to cut up the goat. 15 minutes later he had skinned the goat, cut it to pieces and while some parts of the meat where cooking along the fire we shared the kidney ? all with the help of this little knife.

    Those that know, just know....

Great, pared-down knife and absolutely razor sharp OTB. Brilliant! But most outdoors people already know all about this knife, so lets give credit where it's due to the outstanding service provided by Heinnie; ordered one day, delivered the next, simply fantastic and if there is a better service provider on the web, then I've yet to find it. Thanks again guys, you're amazing.

    Fabulous Kinfe

Posted by Justin on 23rd Oct 2011

To those of you who think the price is too high ... THINK AGAIN! This is a fantastic, well balanced and light knife. The tan is finished with a lightly textured powder coating and is razor sharp! Size is not an issue as this punches well above, if not better than many larger knives I've used. I have used this knife for several days without the factory edge really losing its cutting ability. This has now replaced my CRKT Triumph NECK as my backup to my trusty Mora clipper and my well become my first choice for all camping needs. There is no question ... I should have ordered this long ago! Excellent service as usual from HH.

Hard use knife that performs in the field

Posted by Brian Hamilton on 21st Apr 2011

I needed a new bushcraft knife and picked this up. The full kit is nice, it allows for a lot of carry options. Also in there is a whistle and a small magnesium rod with attached ferrosteel so you have a fire starter too! Throw all these onto paracord, hang it round your neck and you have a good to go survival kit. The knife itself is a sweet piece of steel. It is high carbon so you need to take care with rusting but a quick wipe over with a Tuff Cloth has worked for me so far. The steel takes a nice, biting edge which is good for making fuzz-sticks, batoning through large branches and making shelters, building fires etc. All in all this is nice little knife that punches way above its weight, I would recommend using paracord to wrap the handle as it increases comfort a lot and gives you a ready supply of cord just in case. This isn't a brag piece to impress your mates, this is a hard-use survival knife that is made to be relied upon. Mission accomplished I would say.

    Quality Work Horse

Posted by Themachineworks on 16th May 2009

Fantastic quality knife, lightweight but built strong. No quibble RAT lifetime replacement warranty, razor sharp edge, quality build. The kit is ok, the whistle is a bit lame but the rest of the kit is fine. Fully recommended. Beware though 1095 steel is good but needs maintenance.
