Where minimal design meets maximum utility. The CRKT Pilar III transforms the minimalist’s sailor knife into an impressive folder while keeping the spirit of the classic and the epic tale behind its name. It’s still low profile and understated when tucked away, and carefully designed to punch above its weight when in use.

Jesper Voxnaes designed the original Pilar in his Logstrup, Denmark shop, and named it after Ernest Hemingway’s beloved boat—the 38-foot long vessel that he used for renegade surveillance of German U-boats during WWII in Caribbean waters. The world-famous author was also a WWI vet, big-game hunter, sailor, and fisherman, and certainly would have selected an everyday knife companion like the Pilar® III for his daily endeavors.

The substantial 2.9” spear point blade of the Pilar III features a satin finish and the fine but strong tip is useful for more detailed tasks. The highly grippy G10 handle thrives throughout years of use and the eye-catching, stainless steel lanyard loop elevates the look. A thumb slot opening mechanism deploys the blade and the IKBS ball bearing pivot system makes for a super smooth rotation.

The modern Hemingway is the ultimate Renaissance man, and the Pilar III is the knife that will stand up to the challenge.

Crkt Pilar 3 not enough fidget factor for me :(

Posted by Everyday edc on 11th Jan 2024

Good EDC if you can carry it in UK at an affordable price.Unfortunately I am edc which I like play around with either with a flipper or thumb stud. There is a oval finger hole to get the blade out. This is not the Edc for me but it is well build very solid no play on the blade.

    My 3rd and last CRKT

Posted by Alijami on 20th Aug 2021

I got this mainly as the only framelock in the collection. Visually its very smart, One hand opens satisfyingly easy, great blade profile and sharp. However I always seek to remove pocket clips, preferring pocket carry when legal with a lanyard hole fob to aid extraction. Couldn't budge be pocket clip screws then rounded them. Even new torx bits didn't help.. This is the third CRKT I have had similar problems with. Why can't CRKT use blue threadlocker like most other makers.

Great knife for the price, like a previous review factory grind was slightly higher on one side but not a problem.Needed just a few swipes on a fine ceramic rod to get it shaving sharp.Pity its not a viable edc in uk but i leave it at work anyway where its been slicing everything put in its path, overall very happy with it so far. Also great quick delivery from HH

Absolutely the best pocket knife I’ve owned for the price! Came razor sharp and ready to use! It’s that good I’m going to buy another.

Hope this knife gets the "UK legal carry" treatment. SOON.

    Great knife

Posted by Joshua Skehan on 16th Feb 2021

Great knife. Near perfect ergos, really locks into the hand well with that forward finger choil. I believe this runs on bearings and you can tell. Really smooth opening, I find spydie flicking easiest but can thumb flick and slow role. Easy disengagement, no lock stick, solid lockup. Blade came sharpened at a higher angle on one side but a quick sharpen fixed it. Would recommend.
