Boker Plus XS Drop Point Folding Knife 18

I was given one of these as a gift ( I’m good at dropping hints) as I was impressed by the on-line look of the knife, its specs and reviews. When it arrived I was blown away, and it was my EDC for a few weeks. Then I stopped carrying it as I hated the pocket clip. It was bad enough that it is positioned too low for deep carry, but the real issue is that it sits in the sweet spot where the knife, when clipped in, is just too top heavy to sink down into a pocket, and it always felt like it was about to fall out. I could not put it into a jacket pocket, and no shirt pocket. A cheap stainless steel 2-hole deep carry pocket clip about 5cm long (like £3.90 for 2) solved the problem. The other issue is that it is UK legal, but with huge jeopardy. I want to make my own scales to extend them forward by about 4mm over the blade. That would remove any doubt that it is UK legal, as the tip to hilt measurement is then sub-3 inches/7.62mm. But under the scales there is a metal frame, and it sits inside a recess in the scale. That recess will be difficult to replicate and so I haven’t attempted it yet. If I can figure out how to make nice scales it will easily be back in my pocket.

I have a couple of earlier OD-green versions of this knife with the stonewashed blade [now sadly discontinued].. also in 440-C.. This version has no jimping on the top of the blade and the finish around the recess for your index finger feels somewhat sharp. Blade profile is also much more delicate with this tip version, giving it overall a less confident and 'everyday' feel in the hand. Tried tightening the retaining screws just a little as I prefer a slightly firmer release, but already super tight..that may just be oil etc out the box.. maybe a bit of pocket-fluff will adjust that over time.. Basic rating, a good knife and better than many in the same category, but doesn't live up to my 'go-to' Boker Plus from many years ago which was / is definitely a 5-star.

A good quality piece of kit at the price. Somewhat heavier than I expected, but very solid. The clip works well - almost too well; attaching and detaching from my pocket can be a bit of a palaver - and the blade is brilliant. Came sharp and stays sharp.

One of the best non locking knives I have owned. It almost feels like a lock knife.

These are often out of stock when I look so I snapped one up. I can see why it is so popular, one hand opening and closing, nice weight to it, slicey blade and uk legal, perfect for work. My only criticism is that it's very utilitarian and could be made to look more attractive, but I guess for the price I shouldn't complain. If Boker release new versions of this knife I'd pay more for a more premium look (nicer scales or blade steel etc), it's looks are the only reason I give it 4 starts, 4 and a half stars would be more accurate

Have been using this as a work knife for over a year now and it's held up really well. Gets thrown around in toolbags etc alot, used for opening things, stripping cable, removing cable ties. Holds an edge well and sharpens up easily. Has developed a very slight lateral wobble in the blade after a lot of use but I'm sure I'll be able to tighten it up when I next take it apart for cleaning. The stiff slipjoint and choil indent make it feel very stable during use, but some people might find it a bit too stiff to open easily. I think it does loosen off a bit after a few months of use. Great knife all round, worth the money.

I wanted something slightly wider in the blade and generally bigger in the hand but still obviously legal in the UK. Good quality single hand opener, bonus I can use it with a firesteel. Good purchase overall

Love this knife, fantastic build quality feels great in hand and nice smooth opening only gripe is back spring is soft compared to original xs model that was so tough it was like a lock. If they got the strength in the middle of the two this would be perfect. The finger choil prevents any nasty bites. Thanks HH

Beautiful knife, the shape of the handle and blade are fabulous, finish is very good, better than the XL version I also ordered and returned (it also felt huge in the hand compared to the XS) Lockup is a bit soft and weak, but the finger choil is superb, and the one handed opening is very slick. Only complaint would be the lack of deep carry clip.
