Blade Blank 093 18

I bought this to make a 'copy' of the new Rough Rider grey bone handled skinner which I bought at the same time for only £17 - a bargain. This blank is very similar. The blade is the same size but slightly thicker. The handle is very slightly shorter which I think is better as it looks more in proportion with the small blade. It also has fewer holes which is good as there are fewer pins to fit. The bolster is a bit slim compared with the Rough Rider's. The blank is also made in Pakistan like the knife. A nice blank but maybe a couple of quid overpriced when compared with other, beefier blanks. A DIY project will end up costing more than buying the Rough Rider so if you Just want a nice knife without any hassle buy that instead.

i did question the size of the tang holes and the reply said 5.3mm, a couple of days later the spec listed the holes as being smaller, they actually mic'd up at 5.7 .. just a heads up. i still rate the blade as a 5, how else do we learn?

I ordered this blank yesterday and it arrived today, excellent service once again from HH, many thanks. A nice looking little blade, I am new to knife finishing this will be my 5th project and I am learning all the time, these ''budget'' blades from HH are great for learning. Straight from the box, the blade has an acceptable edge, quite severe grinding marks on the spine of the blade which I addressed immediately with a fine file and wet and dry, the brass bolster was not fixed quite evenly and this too needed attention with a warding file. The pin holes are rather large at 5.3mm. A great blade for a novice like myself and I am looking forward to working on the scales in the coming days.
