A2 Knives is a collaboration between André Thorburn and Andre van Heerden
The two Andres met in 2003 when Andre van Heerden attended a fixed blade knife making course being offered by André Thorburn. Within a week Andre van Heerden attended André Thorburn’s folder making course and this was where the friendship started. They have produced many knives in collaboration and this model, the A10, is one of them,
This version features a Bohler M390 stainless steel blade with an IKBS ceramic pivot system, ensuring a seamlessly smooth blade engagement. The handle scales are "Westinghouse" Micarta which is a fusion of resin and vintage canvas polished to achieve a tactile satin finish. The bolsters are black "Timascus" whilst the pivot and clip are made from Zirconium.
Westinghouse Micarta, produced by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation of America, is one of the earliest forms of Micarta, making it historically significant. Collectors and enthusiasts value the vintage and legacy aspects of this material. This is particularly the case as this specific material is no longer manufactured and increasingly rare to find.
This knife represents a beautiful fusion of classic and modern materials.
