Petromax HK500
As an unabashed gear freak take my word and take the plunge. Just like any priming stove and lantern combined. I thought it was straight forward enough to use but almost a shame to get it dirty....very shiny.

The Petromax HK500 is probably the best- known high-pressure light in the world. For more than 100 years, this weather-resistant and reliable lamp has been used in many different situations. Fishermen, for example, have been taking advantage of its powerful 400 watts to cast for fish at night. Moreover, many fascinating and compelling stories have been brought to light in the presence of the lamp. Aid organisations, armies and other forces also count on the Petromax.
Petromax lamps are made from chrome-plated solid brass. The cylinder consists of high temperature-resistant glass. Therefore, you can efficiently use the lamp, regardless of wind and weather.

An absolutely perfect piece of art.
Superb speedy delivery from HH landed this last-minute purchase with me ready for a family camping trip. Being familiar with Tilley lamps I found the build quality of his Pertromax model a bit lightweight by comparison. Ive owned a Coleman NorthStar in the past but they are very sensitive to petrol fuel degrade so I wanted to stick with kerosene. The start- up procedure feels fiddley at first but is soon learned. The light/heat output makes it suitable for outside space lighting; its too intense for indoor or close use and a reflector is a must I think. My first use was problematic and I nearly returned the lamp as faulty because it would not retain adequate pressure for more than about five mins. I think it was loosing air via the second-stage pre-heater value. Anyway, I stripped down what I could, cleaned and 'worked' the seals, then tried again. Hey presto: "and there was light"!
