Higonokami Medium Brass with Pouch

This is a simple version of a simple Japanese design, a no nonsense folder with a folded metal handle, non-locking blade and a simple extended tang to open it.

The Higonokami style is a friction folder, with no lock, held open by the user’s hand acting on the tang. You'll appreciate the simplicity of the sparse, Nagao design – there’s nothing on this knife that’s surplus to requirements. The handle is of brass with a scallop to accommodate the fingers when the blade is open. The blade pivots around a rivet, spaced with a pair of plain brass washers.

This is the medium version measuring 8.5cm (including the extended tang) long when closed. It's a very nice size and lacks nothing in efficiency and cutting ability. It is supplied with a brown leather pouch with key chain attachment.

    Charming little knife poor packaging

Posted by Andy on 7th Apr 2022

The knife itself is wonderful and I really can't knock how quickly it came my only qualm was the packaging was damaged in transit which normally wouldn't be an issue but this was a gift for a birthday the knife itself arrived in an white envelope with no extra protection for the contents so just be aware. Otherwise service was great and it arrived promptly thanks to the guys at heinnie

    I’m not a knife connoisseur but…..

I bl**dy love this thing !! Perfect for what I want day to day; opening parcels , a bit of whittling, cutting fruit etc nothing major. Not aggressive but looks very cool! The pouch is lovely and works as an impromptu strop. This came reasonably sharp, but I easily got it so it’ll shave arm hair nicely ;-) I was worried that the blade would feel like it’d close on my fingers but it works really well with no concern

Very happy with this knife, the size is exactly what I needed, sharp upon arrival.

Smaller than expected but pleasantly surprised!!

Posted by Craig Tomblin on 18th Mar 2021

This is my first knife of this brand. They have a fascinating history, and the steel quality is astounding. The brass grip was slightly rough to the corner (if you read the history, especially recent history, you'll understand why). A quick rub to the inside corners of the grip with sand paper, finished off with a cotton bud and a tiny amount of brass to remove the scratches created, and bingo, one superbly finished knife. The blade is scarily sharp out of the box, and the brind of the blade is near on perfect. Even though looked at the sizes and understood it to be smaller than a 'standard' folder, it is smaller than you expect. However, this size is easy to handle, and the grip is good when holding it; I don't feel like I'm going to loose control of it when using (and that would be very bad due to how sharp this is out of the box). The grips are simple folded brass, but are very sturdy. If I could make only one comment about this knife, it would be: a simple and proper knife. No gimmicks no unnecessary additives, just a pure knife. Overall, I love this knife even though it's small, I genuinely am impressed.
