Description

The Midgards-Messer Sliding Knife is a limited edition folding knife with a twist (or a slide). Based on a desgin found during an excavation of a Viking settlement in Denmark. This folding adaption features the a similar blade shape and a matching emblem on the handle. Dirk Hofmeister adapted it to a folding knife with a new and mechanically complex mechanism that results in the “Sliding Knife”, a pocket knife that the Vikings would certainly have got a kick out of.

This limited run model has a titanium handle, and N690 steel blade. It also features all of the hallmarks of Midgards-Messer design, including a 5mm thick blade and a reasurringly weighty handle.

    Unusual design

Posted by Anil Sahal on 19th May 2025

I bought this because of its usual method of deploying the blade which can be viewed extensively on Youtube. It’s very cool and very secure once the blade is engaged. My only issue is the texture milling on the handle titanium scales. The tiny raised bumps closest to the celtic design are very sharp and indeed many are bent over producing fine hooks which catch the skin on one’s fingers. I’ve tried flattening them but they just snap off leaving a tiny bright spot of bare titanium against the field of anodised blue titanium. This is a manufacturing error on the part of Midgards Messer rather than Haynes’s.
