Medford developed this little work-horse for the North American big-game hunter. Over in Arizona they have BIG Elk and they had a former employee complained of breaking tips off many of his hunting knives when working out the back strap on elk. Obviously this was like a red rag to an Elk or bull! So they got to work.
The Medford Huntsman Strapper OD is a knife with a smaller "blade to handle" ratio giving better handle purchase and leverage on the blade end of the knife. They use a slightly thicker blade stock than is normal on hunting knives and developed their "Helical" grind to provide an almost imperceptible transition from the main cutting edge to a shorter grind panel height at the tip. This sophisticated turning grind can only be done by hand and only by the very best of knife craftsmen. The shorter grind panel makes for a thicker and much more buttressed tip strength.
