The Japanese Army Pen Knife was standard military issue to the Japanese Army back in WWII. The knife is simplicity itself featuring a non-locking blade and a can opener towards the rear of the handle together with a lanyard loop. The handle is OD green aluminium with a cut out so you can access the blade nail nick. The blade is made from mirror polished 440A stainless steel and is extremely sharp. Plus as it is non-locking and under three inches meaning the knife is UK legal carry. Throw it in your pocket, pack or survival tin.

No wonder they lost the war!

Posted by Elliott on 3rd Jul 2023

Jokes aside, the main knife itself is perfectly decent, sharp enough and folds / opens smoothly. However, it is plagued by some of the strangest design choices when looking at the can opener Blade; there is no setting or lock to the small Blade meaning it is loose on its hinge, making it flap about if left unrestricted. This is """solved""" by moving the small locking arm of the keyring loop over it, thereby making it sit rigid on your keychain and still likely to come loose and ultimately stab your hand, or rear if placed in the back pocket. Additionally, the small Blade extends past the body of the handle when flush with the flat side, meaning there is a sharpened edge poking out even when the small Blade is "locked" with the keyring arm. I can understand if this is accurate to the original design, however this knife would easily be a 4-5 star product in its price group without the can opener.

The blade is sharp and I was able to open a can with the can opener that is on the knife. The knife now resides on my keychain. I'm happy with the knife.

Boker history Japanese army pen knife

Posted by Spydyjo on 5th Jan 2023

Knife arrived today along with an Ontario sp10 Raider Bowie. Two ww2 utility knives, no wonder the Japs lost! Seriously though, this is a nice little knife that is great for collectors and very usable as an edc. It makes a good alternative to basic Swiss army knife. The tin opener is a copy of the US military issue P38 which has probably opened more tins than any other opener. The notch in the handle will open bottles. Two historical replica knives, one splits logs the other is my new edc.

    Handy little knife.

Very light and slim knife, .and fairly sharp OTB. Don’t think I would chance the tin opener which keeps popping out ! Useful for light tasks. I’m surprised if soldiers would use this in the field when you compare it with the hefty British Army Issue knives! Simple and well made knife light and pocketable
