Description

Down behind enemy lines? Left to fend for yourself? These are the scenarios that inspired the Gerber LMF II.

Former military man Jeff Freeman led the charge to engineer this 10" survival knife, field-tested by Gerber with the troops. This knife is as adaptable as the personnel who carry it. Use it to cut through the skin of a fuselage, sever a seat belt, or egress through the Plexiglas of a chopper. Plus, the LMF II does an excellent job cutting firewood and building shelter.

The over-moulded handle successfully limits blistering. There is complete separation between the tang and butt cap, allowing the knife to absorb shocks from hammering and preventing electric shocks. Smartly situated grooves and lashing holes let the LMF II convert to a spear. The low-profile sheath facilitates movement, limits noise, works for parachuting, and attaches to a belt or MOLLE vest. The patented, integrated sharpener ensures edge retention in the field.

    Gerber LMF 11

Posted by Jez on 29th Jul 2025

A footnote to my last review on this knife. Hennies are the best company I have ever dealt with bar none, and a quick call to Richard about the issue over the lower retaining strap was sorted by him over the phone - really an amazing service. It turned out that this complex sheath is multi adjustable and by raising the knife in the sheath and adjusting the various parts of it pulling it upwards the retaining strap was then presented to a slightly narrower area of the handle allowing the strap button push ends to meet. Thereby allowing the knife to be retained by the incredibly grippy rubber sheath entrance plus the two retaining straps on the handle. I just followed Richards instructions and I now have a perfect fit. Bear this in mind if you buy one of these, the sheath may need some adjustment for it to fit perfectly. Yet another example of the incredible service from Hennies. The knife itself feels very solid indeed, like it would go through anything. Highly recommended

    Gerber LMF

I bought this knife because I wanted a sturdy short bladed military style knife. It is certainly sturdy, so much so that removing it from the sheath requires a fair amount of strength, this would not be possible that was not present in the owner. However this turns out to be a good thing as only the top retaining strap is long enough to reach around the handle to close it, and even then with a lot of effort. The lower strap is about 3/16th of an inch short and is therefore useless and I will probably just cut it off. I am disappointed in this low level of quality. I would not buy this knife again, there are plenty on the market as good or better.

Wasn't sure whether to go for the serrated blade or not, overall having now used it, I am glad that I did, I have plenty of plain blades. The knife is nicely balanced in my opinion, handle heavy, the grip is very good and large enough for my huge powerful hands which is something that I have a problem with smaller grips with. This knife feels chunky which is ideal for me. Build quality seems to be good at present, time will tell.

    Gerber LMF 2 Infantry Fixed

Posted by Gary Ralph on 4th Jun 2025

Gerber LMF 2 Infantry fixed. This is a proper beast of a Tactical/Survival knife. All the positive things said about this knife are true. Well made and well thought out. The blade is excellent. 420HC coated sharp steel makes it a right toughy, easy to maintain and look after. The size, shape and grip on the handle are also spot on. The gap to the pommel is genius. The handle is a great fit in the hand. The sheath is tough and durable with several carry options. An integral field sharpener in the sheath and a set of leg straps is a nice touch/great idea right down to the material it's made from. They've thought of pretty much everything. I've seen and heard a lot of comments that the Gerber Infantry is way too heavy. In my opinion I reckon they've done well to pack all this into one knife and sheath. It's a manageable weight to carry and use. It's a fantastic piece of American craftsmanship. The Yanks know their knives fairplay.

Not bought a Gerber fixed blade for some considerable time my last purchase was a command 1!! First impression feels right out of the box, quality and no gimiks, put it to work de barking some Ash shafts I cut last year no issue's, looking forward to a field trip next and try it out round the camp . Great HH service as always.
