Extrema Ratio Dobermann IV Black 18

This is an easy review, should have bought this ages ago. The hype is real, amazing handling despite looks, my favourite type of sheath, unreal geometry, slicey, choppy, batoning no problems, stainless, pointy…not just a good all rounder, this is a genuine contender for if you only had one knife. Only negative for me is the black coating and emblazoned logo, would have preferred the uncoated but prefer this type of sheath. One of only a few knives that for me is basically perfect out of the box. Amazing heat treat and performance outranking some of my “super steels”. Service from HH as amazing as ever with help and advice as well as speedy delivery.

I bought the Africa version a couple of months ago and was so impressed I decided to get this black version for everyday use so I could save wear and tear on the shiny version (the same blade but with a black coating for £226 less!). The Doberman IV is an absolutely fantastic knife. Feels perfect in the hand and chops at least as well as my phenomenal chopping Cold Steel Kukri! Plus it cuts. Comes with an excellent sheath and like everything Extrema makes (I've got a Fulcrum S too) is top quality. I've never used an A1, but I guarantee it won't be better made or give greater value for money than this. Anyone who's thinking of buying a Fallkniven A1 Pro save yourself £150.

I just love this knife, to me it has it all, I have seen the Youtube videos made by bush camping tools again and again, and it convinced me, I had to have such a knife; it is however not likely that I am going to make use of it to the same extent as BCT but I am going to use it. I suppose that it has all one can ask of a Camp/Field knife ... The EXTREMA RATIO DOBERMANN IV I just love it, the grip/handle, the blade, the scabbard/sheath is sturdy, it would have been nice with a kydex scabbard/sheath or the type of scabbard/sheath that comes with the Pugio dagger from Extrema Ratio. The knife was sent to me with UPS next day delivery Monday 31st July, due to bad weather in Cologne it was delayed one day, I recieved it on Wednesday 2nd August. I've had this knife for over a year and it used it from the tropical jungles in the southern hemisphere to alpine regions in the northern hemisphere. Well balanced and easy to keep sharp, strong as and can take a beating if required. I've used it on meat prep, fire prep, fishing, camp chores. One of my favorite big blades, plus very comfortable. This is a great fixed blade, with a great scabbard. Blade including the ricasso - 7.25". Handle - 5". Stock - 6.3mm. Extended tang - 6mm. Balance point - .5" in front of the hilt (slightly blade heavy). There is no jimping on the spine. There are no sharp edges, except for the polished bevel. The massive swedge takes a lot of weight out of the blade. Designed for extended use, I would say. It is a pleasure to hold in the hand. Love the cordura scabbard. Everything is adjustable, and removable. It has a drain port, and quality snaps everywhere. It is very well thought out. Of course, you get what you pay for with E.R. I am very pleased with my purchase.
