The 1095 powder coated blade is the usual thing - easy enough to sharpen and strop to a nice edge but it also dulls fairly quickly, now ESEE would argue that this is what's needed on a blade when you spend time in the outdoors away from your boutique water stones and expensive sharpening systems, you just go find yourself a nice smooth pebble and sharpen the blade as you need to. Anyway it's a workhorse of a knife, does what it needs to do. The handle is excellent, fits in your hand like it'll never slip and you know by the shape of the handle the orientation of the blade. I have the leather sheath which is OK not very thick leather and earlier versions of this sheath (the one with the ESEE logo embossed on it) was better quality but some bean-counter at head office decided that that was eating into their profits... A very good knife, something not so pretty or lovely that you'd be scared to actually use it, the powder coating is thick and quickly looks horrible after a short time, then again you can always get the paint stripper out and take this off when it no longer serves a purpose.
