The Case Sod Buster JR is part of Case's Yellow Synthetic Family. The distinctive yellow handle brightens this family while maintaining its toughness, making it one of the most beloved in the Case line.

The Sod Buster JR is smaller than the traditional Sod Buster without compromising durability. The Skinner blade is ideal for skinning purposes among other different everyday demands.

The blade is constructed with Chrome Vanadium (CV) carbon steel. Some knife lovers will settle for nothing less than chrome vanadium blades, since this special formula of alloyed steel is the “original” Case blade steel. Case Chrome Vanadium blades are known for their edge-holding ability and easy re-sharpening.

The blade is under three inches long and non-locking and is therefore legal to carry at the owners discretion.

    Poor build quality

Very underwhelmed with this purchase. Lots of blade play, spacing on the back spring and overall fit and finish is extremely disappointing. So much for American made quality!

    HH do it better

Posted by Ancipital on 8th Mar 2021

I'd had a few yellow-handled CV Sodbusters from various places, all arrived with differing but severe degrees of sideways wobble on the blade. I ordered one from HH and added a note to check the blade for wobble. My order shipped as fast as usual so I was curious to see what arrived. The knife that arrived had no wobble and someone had even cleaned up the normal ragged Case edge and cut a tiny sharpening choil into the blade. I am very confused by this- if HH did it, then that's simply amazing service. The net effect is that I now have a decent CV Sodbuster, which is a solid and charming pocket knife. Case QA is extremely hit and miss, but when you get a good one, these particular knives are very nice in-hand. They may not be fancy or exotic, but they're reliable and that lovely CV steel is easy to sharpen and keeps an edge pretty well if you look after it. Thanks HH, top service.

    Not very well made

Posted by Sigh on 1st Mar 2021

Felt great out of the box, smooth and solid,. Grind was ragged enough to shred a the strop (ouch). After a couple of days of very light use (opening a few packages etc.), it developed terrible sideways blade play. Far worse than my completely solid Schrade "imitation" at a fraction of the price.

    Its own creature

Posted by Ancipital on 19th Feb 2021

Solid build, fit and finish reasonable. Feels sturdy in the hand. The worst edge I have seen on any production knife- so ragged that it scratched lumps out of the strop (I often like to give a new knife a few passes on a strop before checking sharpness). However, because it's carbon steel and not anything exotic, that was fairly quick and easy to fix. If anything that added to the charm, you have to personalise it out of the box prior to use. This knife has a lot of character. It's a real contrast to modern tacticool G10 and VG-10/D2 knives. Tempted to get another just in case (pun unintentional) I lose this one.

    Something endearing about it

Posted by Badger on 4th Nov 2020

Maybe I'm picky but unlike many of the other reviewers on Heinnie of this product I'm hardly blown away by this item. Fit and finish is similar to my much cheaper (Chinese) rough riders. Spacer gap on one side, blade rubs the brass on closing, one of the plastic boosters is slightly oversised at one end. Had an edge on it but not sure if that's just because I asked the good folks at Heinnie to give it a look over for me prior to dispatch. Honestly what knife manufacturer ships knives intentionally with a burr on the edge! So why does Case do this? Comparing it to my recently purchased Kershaw Culpepper, the Kershaw is better for almost the same cost. So why did I buy it? Well the CV steel really. This steel is super easy to sharpen and uber sharp once you put the effort into sharpening it up. Despite its failings there's something endearing about the object. I've decided the have it as my sole EDC for a year. Will re-review when it's hopefully earned it's keep.

    Disappointed

Posted by Ron Capp on 20th Oct 2020

Ok, ordered one last year and had to return due to a number of manufacturing issues. No fault of Heinnie's, as usual their customer service was outstanding. With the recent issue of the Sod Buster Jr in grey I thought I'd give Case another shot, my mistake. As with the previously returned knife the same issues were apparent although not to the same extent. Blade off centered (but not rubbing), the scale aren't pinned correctly (from above you can see daylight between the scales and the bolsters) and the blade actually makes contact with the rear brass pin when closed. It's a real shame as I was really looking forward to enjoying this classic knife, now I will still use it as a beater but I'm deeply disappointed in Case's standards of manufacture especially from a company with such a history. Think I'll stick to Boker going forward, all my purchases of their products are faultless.

Such a timeless knife! Never been much of a slip joint guy, but since I wanted something rustic and classy, I went with this and I am so glad I did! It is actually smaller than i thought it would be, but that's for the better in my opinion, as it carries nicely in the fifth pocket. Fit and finish is actually pretty good for a decently priced knife. Little bit offcentered blade but nothing worrisome, it doesn't rub the bolsters. Simple and beautiful. Also it was my first HH order and I have to say the delivery to Central Europe was super fast! Truly a professional company!
