Case Texas Jack Small Amber Bone Folding Knife 18

I know the QC on case can sometimes be a gamble but this one took the biscuit. Both blades were off, way off. Both blades had a real obvious bur and the bone on the handle looks nothing like the picture, the handle bone looks like a cheap imitation (I know it’s bone but the appearance looks cheap). A real disappointment

I'm not new to traditional pattern knives or the Case brand, but this one seems to suit me down to the ground. The small/medium frame sits very easily in the hand and lightly in the pocket. The longer clip blade I'm sure has it's uses but it's the short pen blade that I seem to gravitate towards for most tasks. Fit and finish is good and the backsprings offer firm but not overly heavy resistance.

I suppose 4* would be an average over the two i received. Received my first one off of Heinnie which had ingrained rust on the blade and otherwise was very messy. Poor QC all round. Like it had been assembled in a rush, handled, beaten about and placed back in the box. On returning it for exchange the new one is a beauty. Literally perfect.

Superb jack knife. Both blades pivot from the same end, so, by classic cutlery definition, a jack knife. This has nice proportions, pleasing and practical in the hand, with traditional materials that only improve with time. The carbon steel blades will naturally darken with use, forming a desirable patina. The jigged bone ages well, too. The brighter parts mellow and the darker sections fade ever so slightly. It will benefit from a very light amount of mineral oil rubbed into the bone scales for a couple of minutes, then wiped off. If the shield comes off, don't despair. Just cement it back. This is surprisingly known to happen, from any maker, in my experience. Easy to fix. The pen blade may seem small to some, and is deliberately made so for this pattern. If you prefer to get your money's worth in filling the blade slots, consider the classic and popular Case Mini Trapper. I really like mine. If thinking of buying a traditional slip joint folder, you likely understand that it is not a SAK, but that is beside the point. Buy, carry, enjoy, and use this because of its lineage and old fashioned charm that still has its place in the modern world.

A beautifully made little pocket knife. Fit and finish of a very high quality. Great, snappy walk and talk, perfectly centred blades and flawless transitions. It looks lovely and is the right size to carry anywhere without scaring anyone. Maybe I got lucky with this particular knife. It has been in my pocket every day for the last six weeks and I'm still pleased every time I use it.

Beautifully finished with a very useful pair of blades. Only gripe for perfectionists is that the clip point is not truly centred when closed, but not so much as to marr the surface by scraping anything. Definitely my EDC of choice.

What a beautiful little knife! Flawless workmanship and wonderfully classic looks. A very functional small knife with two extremely useful blades. As I write this, I am just comparing it with a Rough Rider knife of very similar size and appearance. Is the Case knife five times better? Well, it is certainly five times the cost. And yes, I personally think it is. It depends how you look at it, I suppose. Rough Rider products are well made and represent truly excellent value for money. Would I want five Rough Rider knives instead of one Case knife? No. There is just something indefinably exquisite about Case knives. A knife that will probably outlast me. Is it razor sharp straight from the box? Nope! But then, few production knives are. How could any large company justify the time and considerable extra expense of making the knife "hair popping" sharp. And would customers want to pay that extra cost? No, it is sharp enough. It will certainly cut paper, if that is what you want to do with it. As with other US made knives , like Benchmade and some Spydercos, if you want it sharper, spend the extra time (or money) and it can be as sharp as you like. Am I pleased with my purchase? I certainly am! And as always, the service from HH is second to none.

This is a great little knife, fit and finish are great, real step up in quality from rough riders (which are great value for money). Very sharp out of the box, only slight negative is the main blade is a bit off centre but nothing major. Very tactile , no sharp ages, bone scales blend beautifully into the bolsters . I have been put off buying US made traditional pattern knives as I bought a Queens Cutlery Congress a couple of years ago (from another retailer) and the quality is very poor indeed , cost twice as much as the Case too.
