In close cooperation with German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS), Boker Plus have developed the Boker Plus Seenotretter Sea Rescue Knife 1, which meets the high requirements on the high seas. As a classic no-nonsense tackle knife, it is aimed at professional and private users on maritime and inland waters and those who work with ropes. It is made entirely of stainless steel.

The main blade made of 1.4116 Stainless Steel is equipped with a half wave to cut encrusted ropes and harnesses. The marlin spike (for untying hardened knots) also includes shackle and bottle openers. Both blades are held in place by a robust and dirt-resistant slipjoint. For durability and reliability, solid domehead studs are used instead of screws. The front scale is embossed with the Hanseatic cross, the well-known logo of the sea rescuers. Carrying is made easier with a deep-carry clip (tip-up/r). A generously dimensioned cord eyelet protects against loss.

Boker donates €5 of the sales proceeds of each knife to the sea rescuers of the DGzRS.

    Good idea, poor implementation.

    Posted by B on 26th Dec 2023

Had very high hopes for this knife but was left rather disappointed. + It's a massive blade, with a cutting edge that's just at the legal UK limit. It should work well to cut some cord and above all cheese, bread, and spread butter. + The blade steel is a respectable tried and tested kitchen knife grade of stainless steel. + Die Seenotretter are an awesome bunch that deserve utmost respect. - The blade is not very well centred and can easily close into the middle liner. - The spike is very think and pointless for rope work. This was a present from my wife as she knows I had my eyes on it for my knotting hobby. - Finish is very lacking and one of the back springs isn't even remotely flush. Conclusion - bit of a let down. Probably better off with a cheap and cheerful Rough Ryder.

    Superb Pocket Knife

Posted by Geoff Matthews on 18th Oct 2023

The Boker Seenotretter knife is superbly made, it is precision engineered with a bulk and heft that feels perfect in the hand. The balance is great for precision tasks as well as quick and dirty rough work. The only and I stress, only, thing that is missing for me is a screwdriver/pry tool for paint cans, etc. on one end. I carry the knife on a daily basis, using it and keeping it ready to hand whenever I am sailing or on the boat.

    Excellent knife

Posted by Dave Thomas on 1st Oct 2023

I purchased this as a gift for my uncle who used to work for the RNLI, & because of the nature of the knife, I figured it would be a perfect gift for him. I was right, he loves it, the build quality is superb, very sharp straight from the box, a lot "chunkier" than I would personally prefer, but as my uncle said to me, you need a more meaty knife, one that won't accidently slip from your hand when wet. I think this is a knife that is more suited to people who actually need it, or, as with my uncle, people who have that maritime history, buy for them as a gift. I usually purchase knives for use in my work as a warehouseman, & though this knife would be useful, it'd be a waste of a knife, when it has a specific purpose. Still, going by what uncles says, if you have the proper use for this knife, it's superb!
