Viper Dan2 Green G10 Folding Knife 18

I got the D2 as the D1 was out of stock, i have mainly carried the ukpk for close to 9 maybe 10 years . But wanted somthing little more robust? Allround usable? I'm not sure, I just felt if I was adhering to uk law I wanted to most bang for my £ in a legal package. Somthing I could keep in pocket, walking the dog, going up the hills, going shooting, going fishing and going to work. A knife I didn't have to be overly aware of it's limitations depending on what I'm up to. This knife has done that. So much so as soon as the D1 came into stock I ordered one With correct handling the knife is fantastic . The D2 is a little problematic to sharpen due to an angle on the tip, not sure it's a true Warncliffe. But it sharpens and hounds very well for the steel. If someone was to ask me now what uk legal knife I would recommend it would be this or the D1 in what ever scales you fancied. Carry it with confidence it's in my opinion one of the best production uk legals available.

I'm off of work on sabbatical and chanced upon a knife review video, this looks interesting I thought and started watching more, before long I decided I needed to change my SAK EDC (picking up the lingo) which I've been carrying for 10 years for something a bit slimmer. After much research on steels, styles, scale (more lingo) material and blade shapes I've settled on this as my first fairly high end (for me) EDC. I've removed the pocket clip fashioned a lanyard from a leather lace and spent ages practicing OHO, I've even been on a picnic today just to have a chance to try it out, This knife is brilliant, the standard of workmanship is superb and it came razor sharp in the box, I'm looking forward to getting back to work now where I will have a chance to use it more often

First things first, I think the phrase "not considered offensive" is a breakdown in translation from Maniago Italian, but the point is its legal to carry in the pocket, in a back-pack, in the car, for sensible use. Its a little more expensive than I would normally pay, but in the hand I don't regret that at all. Its just a superb combination of blade material, scale material, pivoting design and blade shape. The scale appearance is certainly understated. What I like is that with only a modestly extended tang the thumb gimping is behind the pivot, therefore closing resistance can be applied. And for OHO its sufficiently large to overcome the moderate pivot friction. This knife doesn't feature a flipper which usually provides finger protection against inadvertent closure. Personally I'd have liked to see a very slightly larger choil. For example my Trance 42 features a generously sized flipper finger guard but is choked on or forward of the pivot so needs it. Ditto some Chinese knives. I mention this because I find my thumb creeping forward on the Viper because of previous habit. All in all can't quite say 5* but its a great user or Maniago collectable.
