In essence, the Roadie is a highly evolved penknife that is more practical and user friendly than its historical predecessors. It’s most distinguishing characteristic—the “Double Dent”—is a pair of symmetrical dimples in the blade that provide a solid purchase for a fingernail-free two-handed opening. Far superior to a traditional nail nick, they also do not collect dirt or debris.

Unlike traditional penknives, the Roadie also features a subtle index-finger choil that increases control of the knife during use and acts as a safeguard against unintentional closure. These enhanced features elevate the Roadie far beyond the conventional penknife and set a new standard in socially friendly cutting tools.

The business end of the Roadie is a sheepfoot-style blade ground from Böhler-Uddeholm N690Co steel, a high-performance stainless steel alloyed with cobalt, molybdenum, and vanadium. Its wide blade profile and full-flat grind create incredible edge geometry for a keen, scalpel-sharp edge. The broad blade also provides real estate for the distinctive “Double Dent” feature that allows the blade to be easily opened with a pinch grip of the thumb and index finger. Although not intended as an opening feature, a Trademark Round Hole™ in the blade proudly identifies the Roadie as a Spyderco product.

At the base of the blade near its juncture with the handle there is a subtle forefinger choil (finger groove). Placing your index finger on the choil provides excellent control of the edge and creates a natural “stop” to help prevent the knife from closing unintentionally. Both the choil and the opposing thumb ramp on the spine of the blade feature jimping (textured grooves) to promote a positive, non-slip grip.

Unlike a traditional slipjoint, the Roadie’s blade is held open by an improved notched-joint mechanism. Its spring also forms the handle’s full-length back spine, giving it structural strength and providing a foundation for the durable fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) scales. The injection-molded scales are contoured for comfort and feature a recessed Spyderco “bug” logo on both sides.
The Roadie represents a quantum leap in the evolution of modern pocketknife design and sets a new standard of excellence for the breed. We are confident that yours will serve you well.

    Brilliant EDC Blade

    Posted by PJB75 on 11th Oct 2020

Very good knife for the UK. Small and non-aggressive style. Well made with a good steel. Arrived sharp and still holding it’s edge. Probably the best quality small EDC knife we can actually carry and use. Excellent service as always from Heinnie.

    Perfect EDC from Spyderco

Posted by CaptainMontague on 22nd Dec 2019

This is by far my favourite EDC knife. Light, easy opening, superb quality, opens with a satisfying click, retains edge. Only issue is it's so compact I've lost two so am now on my third. Marvellous delivery service from HH ad ever.

Small elegant but yet still a solid tool

Posted by Woodhead on 19th Jul 2019

I had my worries about the size, fit and finish of this tool, but once i'd opened the package and had it in hand, all my worries disappeared. Ergonomically the Scales fit nicely in smaller hands, add a lanyard to the back for a pinky hold and big hands will love it to. Blade was razor sharp OTB is a lovely size and shape and is completely none aggressive, and I doubt anyone would even question you had it if pulled out because all you can see is the small blade. Beautiful tool well made and feels great. Cuts and cuts all day and week long

    Original and fun little knife

Posted by Peter on 27th Apr 2019

I love the look of this little knife and the build quality is nice. The blade is ok for light cutting but due to the thichness, it is useless for slicing. It wont cut paper or cardboard well at all. I had to buy it to complete my uk legal spyderco collection (still missing the pingo) and while it doesnt get much use, I do really like it.

Safe EDC option you can take anywhere.

Posted by GTreloar on 30th Mar 2019

I bought this knife as a safe, discreet carry for work and i'm pleased to say it fits this criteria perfectly. It's small size and rounded edges make it anything but intimidating, if Teletubbies carried knives this would be what you found in their pocket. The backspring is nice, strong and snappy I love the added bonus of a half stop. The FRN scales have a nice feel too them and the Spyderco logo is a nice added detail i got the orange model and am pleased with the colour. I'm happy to say that i can't even nit-pick at this knife, the price seems a lot when looking at it on the internet but when it arrives you'll forget how much it cost you.

    Give it a chance.....

Posted by Ryan on 11th Nov 2016

First of all i must say i paid for this item on a Thursday at 4.30pm, it was through my letter box the next morning by 11am. Now this isn't a one off for HH, they do this time & time again. I can only assume they have bred their own delivery fairies, so well done the HH team. Now the Roadie. I bought one of these in grey 2 years ago, i hated it, thought it was useless & sold it on within 2 days. Yet as i was packing it away for the new owner i did think it was well made, just kind of odd looking, not a "proper" Spyderco. Anyway fast forward 2 years & i've just bought an orange one. I clearly didn't give it a chance first time around. Keep in mind this really is more for light use than most Spydies. This has just kicked my Bug off my keyring, as always excellent build quality & i'm a big fan of the steel used plus absolutely nobody could get offended by the looks of it even in todays touchy society. OK you could argue about the price, it's only £5 less than an Urban. But try making one yourself for that money.....

You get what you pay for

Posted by Defblade on 26th Oct 2016

I've had my Roadie for a few months now. It's my EDC and gets used for all the things you use a penknife for - opening boxes, blisterpacks, packing straps, cutting apples, sharpening pencils etc. It tops out at making feathersticks for fire lighting in my book - I wouldn't want to do anything heavier with it.. I haven't needed to sharpen it yet! As I have large hands, I've added a short box lanyard to the back which gives me more length to hold and makes it easier to find in my pocket :) Everything about this knife says quality and it's simply not showing any of the signs of wear and tear that cheaper knives have quickly displayed (bolsters, pivot). I just hope I don't ever lose it and have to stump up for another one!

    really really really tiny

    Posted by paulhw100 on 14th Oct 2016

This could do with been shown for scale against a coin or something, its minuscule. I'm genuinely surprised its got so many five star reviews, because although its nice quality its so small, what could it be used for? opening envelopes?, its virtually the same price as the bombproof 3G Fallkniven LTC. I wouldn't put this in the same class as a UKPK or a squeak ( best spyderco IMO ) its more like a ladybug/keyring knife. Ive already given mine away, very disappointed, not with the quality just the size.

    Excellent UK EDC knife

Posted by Lloyd Graney on 3rd Oct 2016

The pictures and knife site reviews do not put over how tiny this little knife is, it is smaller than my Victorinox Cadet . The blade is non locking and has good edge retention like other Spyderco knives. If you after a small knife (in particular a small backup knife) then you cannot really get anything better for the price. The only drawback is if oyu have very large hands then I could see this knife being a little combersome.
