Veteran U.S. Marine and an avid outdoorsman Jonathan McNees has a lifetime of experience using knives in the field. When he combined that hard-won insight with his skills as a custom knifemaker, he produced some amazingly compact everyday-carry cutting tools which were the inspiration for the Spyderco McBee.

Proof positive that function is a matter of design, not size, the McBee features a saber-ground Wharncliffe blade crafted from CTS XHP stainless steel. Its uniquely scalloped spine creates a profile that offers both scalpel-like precision and impressive cutting power. Despite its diminutive size, it is also capable of true one-hand-opening capability via its Trademark Round Hole™.

The stonewash-finished blade is paired with a handle featuring precision machined solid titanium scales. The obverse (near-side) scale has a series of skeletonizing holes, while the reverse-side scale forms the foundation of the knife’s sturdy Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism. Both scales have a handsome matte finish and are accented by McNees’ signature stippling on the lock recess and the pivot pin screw heads. A polished stainless steel hourglass clip provides right-side, tip-up carry and is backed by a lined lanyard hole for the easy attachment of lanyards and fobs.

    Spyderco McBee

Posted by Peter West on 24th Nov 2022

Beautiful little knife! Well, actually it’s not really much more than a posh and expensive box-cutter, but I don’t care! It’s very well made and I’m sure I’ll find a use for it sometime, but until I do, I shall gaze at it lovingly! Although the the measurements are given in Heinnie’s description, the McBee is smaller than I had expected. I had imagined something of the size of my Spyderco Co-Pilot, but it’s even smaller than that diminutive beauty. The McBee is extremely small, but remember folks, size isn’t everything! As for Heinnie’s service? They amaze me with their continued efficiency and speed.

    Love it

Love this little knife. CTS XHP is my favourite steel and although this is tiny, it's really useable. I have large hands but 99.9% of the time I only need a knife for simple cutting tasks so I am really enjoying carrying this around the house and gardens. Have been using this for the last 6 months and I still haven't gone back to my Sebenza, which I think says a lot.

Tiny but gorgeous- and surprisingly useful

Posted by Chrisinhove on 28th Sep 2019

Usual Taichung quality, ie excellent, this is a version of what it's custom maker designer intended to be the smallest possible useable locking pocket knife. I have large hands and it totally works, but do check out the video reviews before dropping this much cash.

    Small but great.

It may be small and expensive, but you really can't go wrong with spyderco's TAICHUNG knives they are superbly made, fit and finish is great I'd go as far as to say better than the GOLDEN made one's. As always brilliant service from H&H.

    Great little knife.

Such a great little knife from Syderco. Good to use as an everyday carry. HH always good service just as shame about UPS saying they had delivered it when they hadn't. Day late.

    A joyous little knife

Posted by Hughes on 21st Dec 2018

This is a great quality little knife. Ideal for all the small cutting tasks that we all pretend are the reason we carry a penknife. Usual excellent service from HH, though UPS did delay delivery by a day without explanation. Nick Shabazz has done a very entertaining review here on YouTube
