The Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight Maxamet combines the lightweight construction of Spyderco's award-winning Manix 2 Lightweight with a blade crafted from Carpenter steel's Micro-Melt Maxamet alloy. Maxamet is an extremely hard high-speed powdered tool steel possessing properties that transcend conventional high-speed tool steels and approach those of cemented carbides - the ultra-hard materials used to machine other steels. When Carpenter developed this amazing alloy for the rollers in their steel mills, they sent samples to various companies in the knife industry to evaluate as a blade material. Although many tried, Spyderco was one of only a handful of companies to successfully develop the specialized methods necessary to machine, heat treat, and grind this demanding material to yield reliable, high-performance knife blades.

This knife's full-flat-ground, leaf-shaped blade takes full advantage of Maxamet's properties, offering a superior combination of strength, low-friction cutting performance, and point utility. It is supported by Spyderco's patented Ball Bearing Lock high-strength lock mechanism that consists of a ball bearing nested within a durable textured polymer 'cage.' When the blade is opened, a spring-loaded steel plunger drives the ball bearing forward to wedge between a ramp on the blade and an 'anvil' in the handle's steel insert. Drawing the caged ball bearing to the rear releases the lock and allows the blade to close smoothly while keeping your fingers safely away from the sharp edge.

Supporting the lock is an ultra-lightweight handle injection molded from tough fiberglass-reinforced co-polymer (FRCP). It features Spyderco's distinctive Bi-Directional Texturing pattern for a secure grip in all environmental conditions and a reversible wire clip that provides convenient left or right-side tip-up carry, making all aspects of the knife's carry and operation completely ambidextrous.

SPYDERCO MANIX 2 GREY MAXAMET FOLDING KNIFE

Posted by Gerwyn Weaver on 26th Feb 2024

After the waiting for a little while lol, it has finally arrived and I’m definitely glad I waited back in stock but you had to be fast as they didn’t hang around long before they were all snapped up I was lucky to get the last one and oh brother I am not disappointed in the slightest. You have got the usual high quality control that spyderco has started to come known for the fit and finish is perfect from the scales which might not be everyone’s cup of tea being they’re the lightweight version I can honestly say if you can break them under normal every day use then you was doing something that’s not normal lol. They’re more than capable of taking the abuse you find in your normal day with ease. Yes they might not feel as solid in hand as the G10 and steel liners of the standard version but in no way does this make them weak, they’re also screwed together where as the first version’s was riveted so you couldn’t take this knife apart this problem has been sorted out on this version ( thank goodness) then we come to the part that you are actually really buying this knife for the Maxamet blade which is bang on! The grind is spot on and the edge is like a shark’s mouth so sharp and it’s just teeth the micro teeth gives this the bite that just feels vicious on your finger tips when you feel the edge it feels like about a 600-800 grit which is perfect for this steel. Whatever I have cut so far it just goes through like it’s nothing and it holds its edge ohhh does this steel hold its edge. As long as you treat it with respect and don’t go hitting the edge against other metals or into concrete you won’t need to sharpen this for at least a year and that’s no joke I can say this as I have already got a para 3 and native in Maxamet they’re all fantastic but this Manix has just got that in my opinion perfectly shaped blade. Honestly if you haven’t tried Maxamet then get yourself at least one piece of Spyderco’s models in it you will be amazed at how well it works and how long it holds an edge. I have no problem giving this stuff a 9-10 and I never give 10-10 so that should say it all. Happy knife collecting people and of course you can’t get a better or friendlier service than the folks at HH give you every single time.?????

what can i say? its a spyderco!! ;-)

Posted by Ed on 30th Aug 2017

I've been collecting Spyderco knives for over 15 years and have never been disappointed with any of them. This Manix in Maxamet is no exception. the blade has avery interesting pattern and texture. The locking mechanism is different to the usual backlock on the majority of their knives. it works very well. very lightweight handle and very grippy. I love my spydies and this defo wont be the last I'll buy. been a long time customer and lurker on this site for many many years and their service and delivery hasnt changed. really great to see them keeping their standards!! well done! Always happy to part with my money on this site! LOL!!! :-D

    A true super steel

Posted by Stuart on 9th Feb 2017

I have 5 manixes and the CPM S110v Manix was my favourite but now this is. CTS Maxamet is the hardest super steel used on a knife to date the only steels that can get close to it are ZDP189 and HAP40 but then Maxamet party trick is its abitlty to be hardened even further with out sacrificing hardness or toughness. ZDP189 can do this but it sacrifices its toughness which means it becomes very brittle. I've got a really expensive knife in ZDP189 no guesses which one there then but it's been hardened to 68 HRC and you've got to be careful because it chips but not so with Maxamet as it's a transition metal which means it spans the gap between carbides like tungsten carbide which starts at 71 HRC but can go much higher. The Manix 2 in Maxamet hardness is 69 HRC and it's tough and hard stuff. I've used my own for months now and I still don't need to sharpen it , a word of warning ?? because of its incredibly high carbide and carbon content you need diamond stones to sharpen this as you will just ruin sand belts trying to sharpen this also because of its massive carbon content it will rust and turn color so I keep a film of oil on the blade but if it darkens not to worry just use some autosol metal polish and that brings up the shine and takes the darkened layer off and bring it back up to new again but please keep it away from salt water. This is a fantastic knife though and shows how Spyderco is leading the industry in knife steels and materials. You will be amazed at the edge retention and its performance.
